Mike "Moose" Moustakas 2-4, 2 HR, 4 RBI,

Kila "Hawaiian Punch" Kaaihue 2-3, HR. RBI, BB, K

These two guys are absolutely on fire. Looks like the Royals have at least two very good hitting prospects.

Somebody has to point out the positives

It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

Nah, That Whole

Cursing darkness pretty much rules.

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

I spend a lot of time cursing the darkness

Candles are better. Up there you get to curse the darkness for months at a time in the winter, don’t you?

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

MooseTacos will be ready for High A

next year.

How many HR’s in August for Kila? If he would hit 10-12 could Dayton ignore him in September?

I don't think September is a big deal either way

If he continues to handle AAA pitching well, I’d give him a call up in September, but only for the slightest taste of the majors. I wouldn’t give him many AB’s. I don’t want to give him a big taste of failure, which I think is likely given how quickly he’d be jumping from AA to AAA to MLB. So, I think the benefit to him of experiencing the majors and having the MLB coaches look at and work with him would be minor. So if it doesn’t happen, I don’t think it is a big deal. It’s not like the September call up would be an important step in his development.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

Just FYI

You guys know that Victorino of the Phils already has the nickname of “Hawaiian punch” right? We gotta think of something different.

Damn

But Kaaihue is a real Hawaiian, both geographically and ethnically. I think he has a greater right to it. I’m going to call him Punch, regardless.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

Oh chit

I think that may have been it instead.

Consider me an idiot.

I like “Kila Monster” anyways. But, I’m an idiot so take that with some salt.

I was at the game tonight. One of his foul balls was one of the hardest and farthest hit balls I have ever seen in my life. His power is definitely legitimate.

What was his approach?

Swinging early and often or was he being more selective. Clearly whatever he’s doing is working.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

by NYRoyal on Aug 6, 2008 2:07 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Extremely selective

If he gets a pitch early in the count that he likes, he’ll swing. If he doesn’t like it, he’ll take it. Seeing his final at-bat was really all you need to see about his approach. He got down 0-2 and took the next four for balls, two or three of them very close, against a hard throwing lefty no less.

Kinda easy to see why he doesn’t strike out much either, he widens his stance a little with two strikes and shortens his swing to make contact.

I might go to the game tomorrow as well.

Doesn't matter

As soon as Mike Barnett gets his mitts on him he’ll be flailing at the first pitch

Shawn Komine

Is “Hawaiian Punch”. Kaahuie has to beat him to the big leagues.

I already

proposed and laid trademark to “Pineapple Express”. It’s different, but still culturally relevant!

When Kila hits 50 homers for the Royals, the clever hacks at the Star will not be able

to resist the headline:

.407/.465/.852/1.319

That’s a nice start.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

3/5 BB/K ???

Complete unacceptable! I knew he needed more time in AA!

Please tell me his name is pronounced

KILLAH

What a great name for a slugger. (not sluggerrr)

Any chance Moose can go all Jay Bruce and move

all the way up to Omaha by the end of next year?

I hope he hits a little better than

Bruce, and i doubt he’ll move that quickly.
