Kilamonster (rhymes with gila monster) kills another pitch
Kila hit his fifth home run in nine games in Omaha on Friday. This dude in en fuego. Is he starting to challenge for Shealy's chance next year?

Question on Kila
My understanding is that he’s a 6-year minor league FA at the end of this year, and that he’s not on the 40-man roster. If we put him on the 40-man, do we still control his rights, or will he be able to become a FA because he’s got 6 years of minor league service time?
I hereby resign from this post.

I believe that all the Royals have to do is put him on the 40-man roster
and that will prevent him from becoming a minor league FA. I think that’s pretty much a certainty at this point. There are 3 or 4 guys who could easily be dumped off of the 40-man right now without a problem (Fulchino, Newman, Tupman, and Lisson at least).
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

My vote is Fulchino. Newman just got called up so it’ll be good to see what we have in him. Tupman? I don’t know… with Pena there he is expendible I think. But do we want 4 catchers on the 40 man? Or 3?

All they have to do at this point is put him on the 40-man roster. Then they have him protected for at least three more years until he runs out of options as long as he remains on the roster.
