Game 145 Open Thread - Royals (61-83) at Twins (80-65)

Kansas City Royals at Minnesota Twins, Sep 11, 2008 1:10 PM EDT

100 losses is still in play...

By the way, the precious Twins are 22-32 against teams above .500. So how are they 80-65? They're 10-5 against Cleveland, 11-7 against the Tigers, 10-3 against our Royals, and 6-0 against the Padres/Nationals (14-4 in interleague overall).

Apparently

it has recently come to his attention that David Lee Ross doesn’t offer enough “slug”. He feels that he has found one of the Royals’ problems with scoring runs.

I can see him and Barney sitting around the office at 2am, racking their brains, why, Why, WHY aren’t we scoring more runs?!?. Then, all of a sudden, before game 145, they look at each other as the light bulb goes on at the same time for both of them – That’s IT! We don’t have enough “slug” at 1B.

Trey can’t sleep that night, as he eagerly anticipates calling DM when the cock crows, to tell him that he’s solved our offensive problems. (breathlessly) “Dayton, it’s Trey. Call me. I think I’ve found something with our offense.”

I hereby resign from this post.

Why isn't the...

…Hawaiian Guy in for defense? Isn’t he taller and doesn’t he perhaps have better range that Hillman’s pet at first? – TL

strongly prefer

that Morneau not be given a chance at a walkoff (albeit, unlikely he could hit one off Soria)

Why make him go to the bullpen?

Why not send him home to spend a day or two with his family?

Interesting

Soria junked the slow curveball today. Nothing but fastballs and changeups.

Sorta like a starting pitcher might do the 1st time thru the lineup, then break out the slow curve the 2nd or 3rd time.

Not that I’m advocating he start next season.

Oh wait – that’s exactly what I ALWAYS advocate.

Funny, I was just about to post the same thing

If you look at his fangraphs, he’s pretty much the same pitcher, statistically, that he was last year. There’s no more room for “progress” in his one-inning skills…

You’ve got him on the cheap contract. Either try him in the rotation or trade him for hitting.

Oops

missed one there – he did throw one slow curve, at 0-2, to Casilla

Well crap

I completely missed this game and I’ve been at school all day. That would have been so much more entertaining than teaching today.
