no, I really don't like the Huskers
it goes back to grad school days when Nebraska would come to Lawrence and put a whooping on the Jayhawks, and Dr. Tom would say “Well, we needed to kick that last field goal because you never know when a team might come back.” – right Tom 38-0 at half time. I also get cranky at all the press they get in this state, as if there is nothing else going on anywhere. I do pay attention and am glad that Bill C. is gone.

In The Old
Big 8 days I always favored the Huskers over the Sooners; the Jayhawks were, with rare exception, irrelevant and K-State was fun at times (Dickey, Herron, Grogan) but they rarely approached .500.
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

when I started at KU, the football team was good and was
leading Oklahoma at half-time. Nolan Cromwell, the quarterback blew out his knee, and they stunk the rest of the year. One person doomed the team.

Well. I even kind of liked the Rams while Cromwell played there. Wasn’t his backup QB at KU Scott McMichaels?

Too much football on to pay attention to both games
It takes 46 muscles to frown but only 4 to flip 'em the bird.
ESPN's gameday lineups
1. D. DeJesus, LF
2. M. Aviles, SS
3. J. Guillen, RF
4. B. Butler, DH
5. M. Teahen, 3B
6. R. Gload, 1B
7. A. Callaspo, 2B
8. J. Buck, C
9. M. Maier, CF
I hate Gload, Kila better start the second game
It takes 46 muscles to frown but only 4 to flip 'em the bird.
This makes no
sense at all. Why is Ross Gload still getting starts at 1B…..i am beginning to think that Hillman is a moron.

I mean seriously....
why don’t we give ABs to the younger players. Can’t GMDM just tell HIllman to bench Gload. This really fires me up.
I don't know if that lineup is 100% accurate that is just what ESPN had listed
It takes 46 muscles to frown but only 4 to flip 'em the bird.
That's the lineup
Why isn’t Gordon in there also?

you have a good opportunity to checkout a LH power hitter and instead you play a joke of a 1b like Gload.

There are some things FIP
is going to miss. I don’t know if there’s any other pitcher in the league who can get awya with Dice-K’s pitching style this year, but he’s made it work well enough that it this point it’s ridiculous to expect him to regress to an ERA near his FIP. The guy has just been really “good at nibbling” this year and pretty lucky with men on base. The thing is, he has such good stuff that not all of that can be luck.
A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.
NO WAY!!!!!111 Banny is totally as good as Dice-K!!111
I was just shocked when I saw that.

I don't post as
much as most people on here, but i am one of the biggest Ross Gload haters. No bat….overrated defensively. You can always teach someone defense at 1B and they can become gold glovers. Pujols was average at best defensively when he came up and now look at him. I am so tired of Gload’s weak flairs and groundouts.
Totally agree
from what I’ve watch of Billy at 1b has been good enough. He has great hands and similar range to Gload I just don’t understand this organization. We can blame Hillman all we want but if GMDM wanted Kila to play he could make it happen. TOTAL JOKE

realistically speaking
Why would you ever throw a change up to Carroll
Genius Buck/Greinke

It doesn't make any sense at all, just retarded pitch calling
Whole mess got started because he had to get cute throwing a 1-2 68mph curveball to Asdrubal F’ing Cabrera when he’d only shown him one FB int he whole AB…. just idiotic
realistically speaking
Two things
1. I don’t think it’s Greinke’s call to intentionally walk Sizemore.
2. Greinke is probably throwing a 1-1 changeup in an attempt to get Jamey Carroll out. It didn’t work. That happens. It wasn’t necessarily a terrible choice.
A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.
It wasn't technically intentional, but it was a pretty obvious pitch around

Yes okay,
but who would you rather face with runners on, Sizemore or Carroll? What with how unbalanced that choice is, I don’t mind the walk there.
A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.
I agree with the walk too
but I don’t like the pitch selection to Carroll.

With two outs, just no.
There was a runner on first base, 2 outs. Runner on second 2 outs, fine, walk Sizemore. First, no.

Obviously I'd rather him get Sizemore out
but once he falls behind I’d rather the walk than an XBH, and Sizemore hits the ball hard a lot.

Don't bring a knife to a roster decision fight
Buck was around league average last year, and has been in consistent “not the problem” territory in the past. Will he ever be a big plus? No. Is he a fine placeholder until we develop a catcher who is? Yep.
A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.
DFA was a joke
but nontendering him is a definite option if they can resign Olivo. His track record speaks of falling off a cliff IMO
It takes 46 muscles to frown but only 4 to flip 'em the bird.
Maybe
his PECOTA long term is better than Olivo’s. Olivo is older, and IMO any difference between him and Buck is not worth the extra money it’ll take to bring back Miggi.
A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.
You might be right but Buck seems to be falling apart
his arm is shot and I understand Olivo is older but he hasn’t caught that many more games if you look at their record and he seems to be in better shape
It takes 46 muscles to frown but only 4 to flip 'em the bird.
Maybe
I’m not betting on Olivo next year being an improvement over Buck. One of the reasons that Olivo has better numbers this year is because of him squirreling away a lot of ABs vs. lefties. Olivo’s older, has less plate discipline, and will probably cost more. I think letting him walk is the right thing to do.
Long term, we need a real catching prospect to replace these guys.
A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.
And short term
we need neither of them. We can put you in at catcher.
by powder blues on Sep 13, 2008 5:09 PM EDT up reply actions
Definitely
Bucks splts vs lefties aren’t all that though. With Bucks declining arm I would probably wanna keep him. Our pitchers aren’t very good at holding runners on IMO

you worry about yours. You might spend it constructing better arguments, for example.
A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.
And what arguments
can be possibly made about his “track record”. You really need to relax if you honestly think i was telling you what to do with your time. Calm down ok.
by powder blues on Sep 13, 2008 5:07 PM EDT up reply actions
I really hate it
when people tell me to calm down because they assume that someone who is disagreeing with them must not be calm.
What arguments can possibly be made about his track record? Plenty, but I doubt you’re interested in anything logical. How about the fact that Buck was a league average catcher last year, is usually pretty solid defensively, and isn’t very expensive? Also, we have no catching depth in the organization beyond Pena who might be a solid backup. Do those count as arguments, or would you rather disregard all that and tell me I’m not calm?
A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.
Please be logical with me
in defending him. Most catchers are cheap so that point is moot. But when you do CALM DOWN ok….tyvm.

so yes he is cheap….does that mean we should be forced to keep him. He is obviously not progressing. Yes we have no organizational depth, but that doesn’t mean we have to keep him. We can sign another crappy player just as cheap. But obviously i am stupid. Thank you for being the wise one.
by powder blues on Sep 13, 2008 5:15 PM EDT up reply actions
No,
we should keep him just because he’s cheap. We should keep him because he’s cheap, is usually a league average-ish player, and we have no one better in the organization. Why would we bother going out to get “another crappy player” outside of the organization?
A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.
I just think
that we have given him enough time. Time to part ways, but we will just agree to disagree.

What I don't get
given your opinion, is who you think is going to replace him next year who will be better. Pena? No. Olivo? Maybe, but he’ll cost more and he probably won’t want to resign anyway.
A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.
Well to me
it doesn’t matter. Just someone else. I honestly haven’t looked at the free agents so …..but i am just done watching him have no plan in any at bat. Just looks lost to me.

Eh,
see the reason I don’t really get your argument? It’s really because it’s hard for me to follow an “anyone but Buck” campaign when there’s no one better anyway.

That's fine....

But why call for the team to "sign someone else"
When you don’t even know who (if anyone) is available? I don’t disagree that John Buck isn’t the best long-term answer, but shouldn’t you at least check out the FA market for catchers before you argue that the team needs to sign some other cheap catcher this winter?
Why would
I “have” to check it out…..sorry i haven’t looked at the free agent catchers, but thankfully i am not the GM. I mean if it is that important to you that i know, i can definitely go look at the list. LOL.
