Are you also a Husker fan?

I’ll be at the Marylebone to watch the game. Free food and stuff.

no, I really don't like the Huskers

it goes back to grad school days when Nebraska would come to Lawrence and put a whooping on the Jayhawks, and Dr. Tom would say “Well, we needed to kick that last field goal because you never know when a team might come back.” – right Tom 38-0 at half time. I also get cranky at all the press they get in this state, as if there is nothing else going on anywhere. I do pay attention and am glad that Bill C. is gone.

In The Old

Big 8 days I always favored the Huskers over the Sooners; the Jayhawks were, with rare exception, irrelevant and K-State was fun at times (Dickey, Herron, Grogan) but they rarely approached .500.

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

when I started at KU, the football team was good and was

leading Oklahoma at half-time. Nolan Cromwell, the quarterback blew out his knee, and they stunk the rest of the year. One person doomed the team.

There are some things FIP

is going to miss. I don’t know if there’s any other pitcher in the league who can get awya with Dice-K’s pitching style this year, but he’s made it work well enough that it this point it’s ridiculous to expect him to regress to an ERA near his FIP. The guy has just been really “good at nibbling” this year and pretty lucky with men on base. The thing is, he has such good stuff that not all of that can be luck.

I don't post as

much as most people on here, but i am one of the biggest Ross Gload haters. No bat….overrated defensively. You can always teach someone defense at 1B and they can become gold glovers. Pujols was average at best defensively when he came up and now look at him. I am so tired of Gload’s weak flairs and groundouts.

Totally agree

from what I’ve watch of Billy at 1b has been good enough. He has great hands and similar range to Gload I just don’t understand this organization. We can blame Hillman all we want but if GMDM wanted Kila to play he could make it happen. TOTAL JOKE

Two things

1. I don’t think it’s Greinke’s call to intentionally walk Sizemore.

by kcscoliny on Sep 13, 2008 5:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Maybe

I’m not betting on Olivo next year being an improvement over Buck. One of the reasons that Olivo has better numbers this year is because of him squirreling away a lot of ABs vs. lefties. Olivo’s older, has less plate discipline, and will probably cost more. I think letting him walk is the right thing to do.

Long term, we need a real catching prospect to replace these guys.

I really hate it

when people tell me to calm down because they assume that someone who is disagreeing with them must not be calm.

What arguments can possibly be made about his track record? Plenty, but I doubt you’re interested in anything logical. How about the fact that Buck was a league average catcher last year, is usually pretty solid defensively, and isn’t very expensive? Also, we have no catching depth in the organization beyond Pena who might be a solid backup. Do those count as arguments, or would you rather disregard all that and tell me I’m not calm?

A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.

by NHZ on Sep 13, 2008 5:10 PM EDT up reply actions

by powder blues on Sep 13, 2008 5:15 PM EDT up reply actions

No,

we should keep him just because he’s cheap. We should keep him because he’s cheap, is usually a league average-ish player, and we have no one better in the organization. Why would we bother going out to get “another crappy player” outside of the organization?

A mind without purpose will walk in dark places.

by NHZ on Sep 13, 2008 5:16 PM EDT up reply actions

by NHZ on Sep 13, 2008 5:23 PM EDT up reply actions

But why call for the team to "sign someone else"

When you don’t even know who (if anyone) is available? I don’t disagree that John Buck isn’t the best long-term answer, but shouldn’t you at least check out the FA market for catchers before you argue that the team needs to sign some other cheap catcher this winter?
