USS Mariner on Guillen
If Guillen’s clubhouse influence is without doubt, why haven’t the Royals bonded together and performed better than expected? What players has Guillen held accountable and forced to perform who otherwise would have slacked off without his vaunted leadership? Seriously, name a player on that roster that you could make any kind of argument that Guillen has helped this year. Just one.
The beat writers love to tell us that Guillen kept the young players focused on winning and playing the right way, inspiring them to work hard by his example. But in his only season here, Jose Lopez - the guy who the organization constantly reminds us needs help working hard - had his worst season as a Mariner, and then had his best season as soon as Guillen left.

Guillen doesn't make anyone better
But do even really good players make other players better? Certainly a better hitter in the lineup helps other players to some extent (if nothing else, having runners on base when you come up to bat increases your BA/OBP/SLG), but is there any evidence that “good clubhouse guys” improve the performance of others?
This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

If we pay our superstars 12 million
he better make everyone around him good samaritans, he better drive every team bus, make every player on the team gain 100 pts of OPS, pound beers the fastest, and appreciate the local majestic fountainery.
Accidentally not thedude925 anymore. I do hate this new name.
Don't tell Dunn or Burrell that
That job description wouldn’t be a good selling point for signing with the Royals.

It would be nice if Guillen could just raise his own OPS 50-60 pts
then he’d be a league-average corner OF
at least on offensive. He’d need a time machine to go back a few years to be an average defender.
OMG Banny. FWIW I am only crdtng u w/3 runs allwd bc of DDJ OMFG

Jose Guillen's clubhouse influence
Is a switch he can turn on and off. He is probably not using it this year in an attempt to hold the Royals hostage for more money!!!
