Game 156 Open Thread - White Sox (84-68) at Royals (69-84)
Chicago White Sox at Kansas City Royals, Sep 19, 2008 8:10 PM EDT
The Royals go for eight straight behind Brian Bannister (5.77 ERA) tonight at the K. Bannister has posted a 3.55 ERA at home this season, which is remarkable because nearly all of his other splits are terrible: 7.20 ERA in July, 7.76 in August, 5.94 in September, etc. etc.
The White Sox counter with Mark Buehrle (3.85 ERA). I am excited about not having to spell Buehrle again this season.
I'll be in NYC tonight for a bachelor party weekend. (So much for that second post on Grass Creek, etc.) Have fun without me. All three game threads are ready to go...

I know the real reason behind your “weekend.” You don’t want to have to admit the success of the surge in the middle of a heated election campaign where you’re trying to cater to voters who want us to withdraw our forces from Wyoming. You can’t fool me.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.
That can't be a Royals lineup
There’s nobody there who totally sucks. Try again, pal.

Maybe Guillen will suck tonight
just for you. He’ll point to the shortstop before his inning-ending 6-4-3 double play.

that lineup would save 89471109371908374091374197341 9479 runs per game.
but sadly, it wouldn’t ever score either. 0-0 tie would need to be called by Bud Selig.

Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.
George Brett has them cornered in the clubhouse
talking to them about that strange burning sensation.
Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.
I'm starting to suspect
you don’t quite understand what sarcasm actually is…
Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.
To explain (in cased it's needed): Since you...
…were giving me a hard time about psychology on the other thread, I figured you were continuing the hard time by insinuating that Brett was talking psychology. In sum, it appeared you were being sarcastic. – TL
No, Tim.
I was referring to the fanshot I posted earlier today. Check it out.
Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.
The real questions for...
…tonight’s game are these: How many runs will Banny give up, and by what inning?
My vote is 7 runs in 5 innings. … And I hope I’m wrong. …Oh, and we win the game 9-7 in 9 innings because our stellar bullpen gives us the pschological confidence to come back after Banny’s pulled. – TL
I'm so sorry...
…to be right on this. Wow. I didn’t really think that Banny would give up 7 runs in 5 innings. He had been doing so well. – TL
I didn't "get" you
I really wish the White Sox could score a -run. Several, in fact!
Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.
I didn't realize that...
…we either had a foreigner around here or someone rooting for us to “win” the highest draft pick. – TL
I have a good feeling that Brian is going to get blown the f$*$ up tonight
realistically speaking
Then again, nothing could be worse than former Royal Jeff Suppan's effort tonight
Just about completely torpedo’ing the Brewers playoff hopes.

Here is my thought, albeit a little late:
We haven’t focused nearly enough on the ongoing battle between Butler and JoGui…for the team lead in GIDP. This is some highly dramatic September action!
that's one of the things that makes it so hard to give up on him.
When he hits the ball well, he looks great doing it. It just doesn’t happen often enough.
Stupid pitching from Bannister
Walking Alexi Ramirez is almost impossible, leave it to him to find a way to do it and better yet, leading off an inning. That will score.
realistically speaking
One day you all will realize I'm mocking myself most of the time
But still, he got lucky on that one
realistically speaking
Uh oh, here comes the big inning
realistically speaking
Brian may as well have just drilled him in the earhole
At least that would have been satisfying.
Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.
This has disaster written all over it
realistically speaking
Great pitch after great pitch
foul foul foul foul
realistically speaking
Yeah... I do feel bad for Banny there.
I mean, he just got worked, but he wasn’t really making mistakes.
Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.
That's what happens when you don't have an out pitch.
realistically speaking
he's just been unlucky

No...don't throw him that slider unless you can throw it out of the zone
You can get Ramirez out pounding him up and in, he just needed to elevate it a bit more and he would of been gone.
realistically speaking
yeah...i was being sarcastic....
some on here have contended that banny is very unlucky while i have long contended that he’s just not a mlb caliber starter

He has been unlucky this year
.308 BABIP this year, and .311 BABIP the last 365 days. .327 BABIP this year against lefties. I’m starting to think that, this year, he overthinks his pitches and this has led to a disastrous result this season.
Bannister is clearly an MLB starting pitcher. Negate his high BABIP and his ERA is about 5….an acceptable #4 and an above average #5.
by Royals Nation on Sep 19, 2008 9:12 PM EDT up reply actions
Nonetheless, I agree with slayor
That Bannister doesn’t possess an ‘out’ pitch. It also frustrates me to no end how he has sacrificed more strikeouts for more walks. He is not the type of pitcher that can go deep in counts.
by Royals Nation on Sep 19, 2008 9:14 PM EDT up reply actions
yeah, not having that out pitch will definitely hurt him if he's not on top of his game.
But, when he’s decent he has the ability to get 5 innings. Then, you have to lean on the bullpen.
as much as babip can tell us....
when you dont have any good pitches, hitters are going to hit them hard more often.

Anyone else think Guillen runs like
he is 45 years old? My old football coach ran like that and he was 52.
My old football coach was also a former D1 player who then went to the Army for 20 years. You did what he said.
Jesus Christ.
Hillman, i don’t think he HAS IT TONIGHT
