Cheer for the Royals, or against the White Sox

This weekend, I have a dilemma.  The Royals are playing the Twins.  The Twins are competing with the White Sox for the division.  I hate the Sox with passion.  The only that garners similar hate is the Cardinals, but that is neither here nor there.

I figure I have two options.  I could cheer for the Twins this weekend.  This would be hard to do, but on the other hand, the Royals aren't playing for anything.  Or, I could cheer for the Royals, if the White Sox make the playoffs then so be it.

Ideally, the Twins win their series finally with the Sox, then get swept by the Royals.  Meanwhile, the Sox lose out.  It could happen.

Has anybody else contemplated this?

I am cheering for the Royals, secure in the knowledge that neither Minnesota nor Chicago are getting out of the Divisional Round anyway.

Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.

It’s more heartbreaking to Sox fans for the team to make the playoffs and be promptly swept out than to not make the playoffs at all. I say vote for more heartbreak for the Sox. – TL

It's a dilemma for me as well

Really makes me sorta ambivalent about this weekend. I do hope the Royals can win at least 1 more game – a season ticket holder I know & like has 5 grand on the Royals “over” this season, and the line he got was 73 & a half. Sure looks like he was cooked going into September, it would be great for him to pull that wager out of his arse.

Best case scenario is for TB to wipe out Detroit, allowing the Royals to lose 2 or 3 and still finish 4th, which I think is (somewhat) important – if not to the players, then to the fans.

Yeah, this is a toughy

I have to root for the Royals. Their wins mean more to me than the Sox failure, but it is close in this instance. Hopefully the Royals take the series and Chicago gets embarrassed in the first round of the playoffs.

This is just my opinion. I could easily be wrong.

But Sox failure is magnified when you make the playoffs and get quickly booted. This happened to the Cubs last year. They made the playoffs, but who cares? – TL

+ if Swisher has a bad series, management will overreact to his unclutchness

and trade his ass to the Royals for a real player, like Jose Guillen.

Always Royals

My love for the Royals trumps my hate for any other team.

This is true for KU as well – I’d rather see KU win, than Mizzou lose.

Root for the Royals

I don’t like the Twins that much more than the White Sox.

If the Twins and Sox are separated by

1/2 game on Sunday, the Sox and Tigers have to play a make up game on Monday, true?? Imagine how pissed off the Tigers will be!! Then, depending on that outcome, Twins and Sox play a tiebreaker on Tuesday, I guess….that’d be good.

F**K the Twins

I can’t stand how they play the RIGHT way. I can’t wait til they get out of that dome and start stumbling. Plus the ump gave the Twins a total homer call last night in the 3-2 win. I don’t like the Sox either but I can stomach the in the playoffs.

It takes 46 muscles to frown but only 4 to flip 'em the bird.

I cheer the Royals regardless

Furthermore, I am cheering for Tampa Bay in Detroit. I am more interested in not finishing last than in who finishes first.

I am definitely with you

I hate the dirty ass, cheating White Sox. I can’t root against the Royals, obviously, but I won’t care if the Twins take 2 of 3 from us if it gets them the division over the White Trash Sox.

I’m just hoping for: Davies to look good tonight, Meche close out a great season tomorrow, and Ducky can do whatever.

If the Royals finish last, I'll hear about it all winter

Let’s just say I dislike the Cardinals more than the White Sox and do not need their fans reminding me of another finish in the basement.

Could we arrange for Pittsburgh and Minnesota to change leagues?

by jbrocato on Sep 26, 2008 5:22 PM EDT up reply actions

It would be fantastic if the Twins clinch

by beating the crap out of Ducky instead of Grienke.

Hopefully the Sox tank so that it doesn’t matter if the Royals take the first two games of the series.

Here's why you root against the white sox

Because they have, bar none, the most annoying game callers in all of baseball. Try watcing a Royals/Whitesox game through MLB Extra Innings when you have to listen to those two clowns. “He gone!” What a loser. I hope the White Sox never win another game ever again for that guy alone.

+500

As a baseball fan who lives in Chicago, I’d occasionally like to watch other games. My only options, however, are whatever FOX is showing because if I hear “can of corn” one more time, I’m likely to go ballistic. …And that doesn’t account for the random acts of violence perpetrated by Sox enthusiasts against my team in the past. Idiots. – TL

There is a reason why the lyrics are

“And we’ll root, root, root for the ROYALS….”

+ another 500

I don’t get many channels at the monastery and the only time I get to watch the Royals is on WGN. “He gone!” sounds immensely ignorant, not to mention unbaseball-like.

However, I must admit that it wouldn’t matter in the playoffs because the announcers will not be the ones from the team.

Dang it!

I think we should let Pena start in Meche's place.

There is no reason to worry about overpitching Meche. Pena is never going to be the starting SS again, let him try to start.

Mostly, I just think it would be fun to watch.

That game is on FOX…haha.

It's easy now

Cheer for Chicago today, so Detroit finishes one game behind the Royals. Then cheer for Minnesota in the tiebreaker tomorrow.
