Game 142 Open Thread - Royals (61-81) at Twins (78-65)
Kansas City Royals at Minnesota Twins, Sep 9, 2008 8:10 PM EDT
The Royals get a golden opportunity to play spoiler this week as they open a three-game series against the Twins, who, as you may know, just play the game THE RIGHT WAY.
Your pitching matchup features Brian Bannister (5.56 ERA) versus Nick Blackburn (3.71 ERA). Although he hasn't been able to secure a mythical pitcher win in awhile, Banny is sorta on a nice, or at least non-horrible run here, having lowered his ERA about half-a-run since topping out at 5.96.

was fired today……being replaced by J.J. Picollo who has been in charge of scouting since July 3rd.
The actual article is on
kansascity.com, but it doesn’t say much more than what i put up.
it is one thing that will be remembered about today
but the game tonight against the Twinkies will be etched in our brains for all of eternity. We will be able to recall all the little details about today when we think about the game. For example, I am having grilled sausage, with corn on the cob with my wife, while enjoying a Blue Moon. Memories……

Okay, I think I'm ready for a new pitcher.
realistically speaking
Bannisters night is just about complete
Mauer and Morneau should put this dog out of misery tonight
It takes 46 muscles to frown but only 4 to flip 'em the bird.
It's like Old Yeller
And Morneau is the shotgun
realistically speaking
they are out singling us tonight
was Callaspo playing in? I thought he might be able to get that one.
another sac fly/run here?

OK, well that stunk
I have to take issue with Splitt and Ryan here. They are badmouthing Guillen for not running all out to first, when he did get his third hit and it wasn’t going to be anthing more than a single, yet they refused to say that Gload didn’t hustle to hold Gomez to a double instead of a triple. Splitt got Ryan to admit that there was more hustle on the Twins part, but he refused to name Gload.

Will some please get them to shut Bannister down for the year?
I went to my first Royals game back in 1976 and have always been a diehard, but this guy is killing me. I live in the Twin Cities and only get to see the Royals when they play the Twins and the difference in quality when you consider they both come from cities of the same size is frightening. I’m going to the games tomorrow and actually taking the day off on Thursday so I can go to the day game and I’m dreading the abuse I’m going to get for supporting these guys. I’ll be there yelling and screaming. Someone please talk me out of it.

Well, we've only seen a little bit of him
Generally, until the lawsuit ep, we see him looking at Michael skeptically (understandably so).
I think he somewhat represents the “normal person” perspective, a la the viewer, at least so far. Yes, Michael’s incompetent and clueless, and stupid. But Wallace sees, as we all do, that Michael just wants (despite himself) to be a nice guy, and is, deep down (Tobyphobia aside).
