2008 KC Royals "Who Said It?" Quotation Challenge

The end of the year always brings great traditions: optimistic resolutions, college football bowl mania, and end o' the year retrospectives, countdowns, and marathons (thank you VH1).  But before 2008 is put to rest, let's take one last look back at the year that was in Royals baseball.

My original intention was to compile a Top Ten list of Trey quotes, but I quickly found that quest just made me want to broaden my scope to include players, so that's what I did. Here's how it works...I'll provide the quote, you tell me who you think said it. To make it easier, I'll narrow your choices to infielders/outfielders/pitchers. It's almost like a whacked-out version of Royals Mad Libs.  Ok, maybe not.  (Although that would be awesome).

So, without further adieu, here it is--the 2008 KC Royals "Who Said It?" Quotation Challenge! Good luck....I'll post the answers in a few days. No cheating...or I'll text Dr. Evil and have him track you down and set you up on a date with two of his hottest pals--- liquid hot "mag-ma," and/or the "lasers" from his Alan Parsons Project!!!!!!!!1111

Section I: The Infielders

You will use each of the following ONCE and ONCE ONLY: Mike Aviles, John Buck, Billy Butler, Ross Gload, Alex Gordon, Mark Grudzielanek, Miguel Olivo, Tony Pena Jr., Ryan Shealy.

1. "When you can drive in runs with two outs, you're going to be a pretty dad-gummed good team."

2. "I'm a man. I take my consequences. I know what I did. I think I did the right thing."

3. "I was glad to get a double out of the way. I hadn't hit one yet."

4.  "It was funny because Zack was going through the lineup, up and down, just cruising. And I was talking to him out there -- 'Man, you look good.' Section II: The Outfielders

10. "I got a good jump, good read. I guess I've got to do something on defense, I'm not doing anything with the bat."

Section III: The Pitchers

You will use each of the following ONCE, except for Zack Greinke, who will have THREE quotes (I couldn't narrow it down): Brian Bannister, Kyle Davies, Brandon Duckworth, Jimmy Gobble, Zack Greinke, Luke Hochevar, Ron Mahay, Gil Meche, Joel Peralta, Ramon Ramirez, Joakim Soria, Brett Tomko.

 

14. "I was finally able to get harnessed in and not try to throw the ball through the wall every time."

15.  "This is like my two-seam, my sinker -- I sweat so much that the ball slipped when I threw."

Section IV: Trey Hillman

Here's an assortment of quotes from our fearless leader, Treyball.  I compiled them in a non-inclusive Top Ten list....in completely subjective reverse order of hilarity/patheticness.

10. "I was sitting there hoping somebody would go boom," Hillman said.

9. "Obviously it was an embarrassing situation in that inning," Royals manager Trey Hillman said. "We walk four people, and it snowballs and gets more embarrassing with a miscommunication. "It turned into what ended up being a really ugly situation. We took a three-run game to a way-too-far-to-come-back game."

8. "It's nice to be a part of positive history, very nice," said Royals manager Trey Hillman.

7. "It was a nasty loss. Tony (Pena) did a nice job finishing up for us."

6. "We put a crooked number up. It's been a while," said Royals manager Trey Hillman. "We put two up in one inning. You think it's gonna be a good day."

5. "He threw a no-hitter. There's not more I can say."

4. "I waited for maybe five seconds before I took a deep breath. It was a big relief. I don't care if it was against Billy Bob Buck," Hillman said. "It would be sweet against anybody after 12 in a row."

3. "It's never good to see popups dropping, but we won the game," Hillman said.

 

2. "I'm very impressed with what we were able to do," Hillman said. "Nobody panicked in the dugout."
