Highlights of Teahen Interview on KSHB-41 in KC
Mark Teahen sat down for a rather lengthy interview on KSHB-41's Sunday "NBC Action News." (Thankfully it wasn't with Jack Harry) Anyway, it's not loaded on their website, so I thought I'd mention a few tidbits...

- He gave the standard optimistic off-season answers when asked about how the team is going to approach the season, mentioning how they're hoping to build off of the successes/progress of the last few years and finally break out this season. However, he specifically mentioned that the Royals are not a young team anymore.
- When asked which off-season move was the biggest, he couldn't decide between Crisp and Jacobs, but instead mentioned how it was a big move to see how the organization is comfortable enough to move a couple good, young arms in the bullpen in order to acquire some position players. He mentioned how Crisp's speed in the outfield and at the top of the order will be a welcome addition, as well as Jacobs' power.
- The interviewer asked him if/how the moves specifically affected more than any other Royal, and he said that they probably do, mentioning how he may be a player who moves around to a lot of positions and helps the team out in any way they need him....whether that was in the outfield, 1st, 2nd!!!, or 3rd. (The 2nd base comment was a bit unexpected...I believe his quote was something to the effect of "they may throw a little second base at me).
- He said he does feel more pressure this year to perform with the bat, since last season was a bit of a disappointment. He said that he's established himself as a quality, versatile player defensively, but now he's focused on establishing himself offensively with a bounce-back season.
- They asked him about being one of the players who have been with the Royals the longest, and he joked how he, Gobble, Greinke, DeJesus, and Buck have talked about putting some money into a pool, and whoever remains a Royal the longest gets the cash. He did say that he believes that all of those guys want to stay in KC as long as possible.
- Said how he tried to stay away from the trade rumors over the winter, but his buddies would call him and tell him about them. But he said he fully expects to be with KC in Spring Training this year.
- The interviewer asked about Treyball and if he changed over the course of the season. Mark said he changed a little as he learned the game and got more comfortable with things in the MLB. He said how it's always an adjustment for someone (player or manager) coming up to the big stage of the Major Leagues, even though you've spent a lot of time in organized baseball.
- Finally mentioned some things about his charity organization, complete with video footage of DeJesus modeling/walking down some type of runway in some black and pink suit....good stuff.
--I don't know if they'll upload the entire interview to their website or not, but maybe they will in the morning tomorrow. If so, here's the address:

Thanks for the recap
If Teahen could play 2B occasionally without embarrassing himself, he’d really increase his value as a supersub.
Teahen doesn't seem
like he would be the agile type to be turning double plays at 2B. As to range, I have no idea how his might compare to Callaspo. But, I don’t understand why they don’t seem to want to give Callaspo a chance to succeed at 2B. Bloomquist is no good in my view and I count myself as a Teahen skeptic. I just don’t think he’s a good hitter.
I guess it’s the same as Butler and Shealy – they simply don’t want to give them a chance.
