The Caravan
The Royals Caravan is going to be at the YMCA next door to where I work! The poster says that GilgaMeche, Davies, Dennis Leonard, GMDM and of course Sluggerrr are scheduled to be here in little Hollister (Branson,MO). This just made my Jan. since I probably won't be able to attend FanFest. Now all I have to do is take a late lunch so I can go next door!

Ahh Hollister....home of C of O...
well I guess that’s Point Lookout to be technical, but it’s the same place. Good for you, though. That Caravan is always a good way to meet the players and not have to face a big crowd. My freshman year of college there were less than 10 people in Warrensburg when I saw the crew of Jeremy Giambi, Hal Sutton, Mike Sweeney, and Denny Matthews. I think it was the spring/winter of ’99…before Sweeney really broke out as a stud.

You are right
I went to C of O for 3 years. I went to the caravan in Springfield last year, Buck/Ducky/White were cool, Hoch just kind of sat there and didn’t say anything.

I went to the caravan in Lincoln 2 winters ago,
right after I had a shoulder surgery. The Shealy and Ryan Braun signed the sling I had on my arm. That was really like the only good thing that happened that winter.
Last year Alex Gordon was part of the Lincoln stop, so of course there were a bajillion people crammed into the place. And every one of them had some pathetic story about how they “know” Gordo. I suspect that many of them were actually meeting him for the first or 2nd time ever.
I can’t believe it draws small crowds in other places. Even without Gordon, it gets pretty crowded in Lincoln.
WTF, self?

+1
last year the place was absolutely ridiculous.
and Gordon seemed annoyed which was kind of funny.

He had been in town for a few days already
and was rumored to be making other appearances, which he did not.
He did seem annoyed, so I did not bother talking to him. Teahen and Mayberry were much more interesting. And I made Mayberry chuckle loudly (borderline deep belly laugh), which was awesome.

I work at the newspaper here
and we got some posters for it is how I know about who’s going to be here. I would think it would be on the Royals site though.

Springfield
Can you look on your poster and tell me when the Caravan will be in Springfield, MO? I’ve gone for years but last year I missed it because it wasn’t announced until the morning of in the local paper.

The poster is only for
the stop in Hollister…local radio station is promoting it. I would think that since they are here from 3:30-4:30 that they would be going to Springfield after that.

The fun thing about Yabuta being there,
is he’s not bringing Shingo with him. No translation for you!

Only the best for us fans
up here in the forgotten PNW.
Perhaps I can convince Zdnrcytzyk that the Mariners NEED these players with true grit and can get him to sign them while they’re in town.

Gload, Yabuta, Farnsworth, Pena, German, Costa, Musser, and Guillen for Felix Hernandez?
Look at the quantity they are getting

I wish the Royals Caravan would come to where I live
Then I can ask Moore face-to-face why he spent $9.25M on a mediocre at best middle reliever. This would end with me being dragged out kicking and screaming, but it would be a good time.

there are things in the bowels of the K that we don't understand
Obi Wan McClure is going to get Farnsworth trained up real good!

Could be, and that would be great
(and I know you were joking) But I did want to address this. Even if Moore recognized a real diamond in the rough and recognized that Farnsworth will be good the next two years, the signing was a problem. If it turns out that Moore and his people did a great job of identifying talent that’s going to rebound in Farnsworth, that explains their strong interest in him, but not the contract amount. Even if he was smart to really want Farnsworth, that doesn’t explain overpaying him so much. Sure the Royals may have to pay more than other teams for FA’s, but not usually for third or fourth tier FA’s like Farnsworth. When there isn’t much interest and most teams think the player stinks, you don’t have to wildly overpay for a player’s services. Does anyone think that any team would have offered Farnsworth even 2/8? That’s the problem. Given the market for Farnsworth, even if he’s good the next two years, Moore screwed up in paying him more than he was worth in this market.

Yes
I agree with that. He was bidding against his own shadow and freaked out, I guess. Not sure why he essentially gave up on himself. The last 2 years he’d managed the pitching staff real well on pennies. Speaking of. Penny was cheaper (or close to it) – and a starter.

GMDM's Cronies...
would probably stop you at the door. I’m sure they read your less than flattering commentary on the day of the signing. I must say that I am still quite depressed about it.

is that a trick question?
I don’t believe there are any former Braves on that list, so the answer is “none of the aforementioned”.
