Just in from the Caravan

Just got back from the Caravan in Hollister, MO. Grienke & Kila ended up being there instead of Meche and Davies as the poster said. Also Brian McRae and Dennis Leonard were there. It was at the YMCA, Zack and Kila like to play basketball. Grienke also said his top choice of FA's would be Hudson. I'll try to put up pics and maybe a little more feedback hopefully tomorrow. Overall good time!

me too

although did anyone else get a bit nervous when they read this? (Aaron Boone)

Orlando Hudson would be awesome on so many levels.

Bringing you more-or-less replacement level analysis and commentary since sometime in 2008.

FWIW, Tim Dierkes in his chat today

Said that Hudson is probably looking at getting a 2/15 contract. We’d have to pay more than that obviously, and forfeit a second round pick, but still….

2/18 would be very tempting, or 3/24...even with the loss of the draft pick

And would have been so much better than what Moore did this offseason.

Why would the Royals do something as stupid as that...

when they’ve already landed Big Game Bloomquist to a 2/$3.1 steal of a deal?

he looks like the squirrely annoying guy that every high school team has....

he just sits on the wing waiting to shoot threes, then after he drains one….fouls the other teams pg all the way up and down the court every possession, then whines when theres a foul called

Springfield Caravan

I just got home from the Royals’ Caravan in Springfield, MO. I was most excited to see Dennis Leonard. I looked at his career numbers today. Some interesting stuff: (1) his 1977 year was amazing: (2) he had 7 consecutive years fo 200+ innings; I think some of them approached 300 IP; (3) he only missed one year – 1985 (he actually pitched 2 innings); what a bummer that had to have been for him.

I told Kia that he should have been inserted in the lineup this year and that his OBP was great. He just smiled and nodded.

I don't fight extra players.

I wonder if ZG asked him about any of that.

Upgrade!

I’d much rather have Kila and Zach than Gil and Davies. Gil, despite being a very good pitcher, seems rather boring in interviews. Davies actually seems interesting, but who wants to meet the back of the rotation guy?

More random stuff from the Royals Caravan.

-I told Zack that I went to the Billy Butler jersey game last year and that it was cool that they were out helping to pass them out. His response, "Yeah they kind of make us". The PR lady was quick to say "They ask you nicely to help out"

-Talked to the lady from PR for awhile. She said this was like the third stop that Zack had been playing basketball and she is always having to tell him to be careful so nothing happens to him.

-Zack says he is ready mentally to report for camp, but he hasn’t been throwing much.

-Both Zack and Kila think the team will be better this year. Zack would also love to have Ben Sheets in KC, or Adam Dunn.

-Dennis Leonard pretty much follows the team thru the newspaper, doesn’t get to the stadium very often.

-Zack doesn’t really have any personal goals for the season other than being ready and prepared for each game and each pitch.

-The PR Lady (forgot her name) has heard of Royals Review.

-Asked Zack about signing long term and all he said was “We’ll see what happens”. Not the most reassuring answer.

It was really a good time, for me anyway. Not a lot of people there so I was able to stand around and talk to the guys for awhile. Kila is not a big talker. Overall not a bad way to spend a late lunch hour. Will try to get pics up asap, have to upload from my camera.

That would be so much fun.

We’d probably either win or lose 100 games and nothing in between.

I remember the Butler jersey game...

it was pretty much a debacle. I didn’t really care that much about the jersey (never been a jersey guy), which was a good thing, because they were gone probably 1.5 hours before first pitch. The worst part was that it was absolutely freezing—just a HORRIBLE day for baseball. I’ve probably only been to 4-5 FOOTBALL games that were worse, weather-wise.

Yeah it was cold

that was also my son’s first Royals game (he wasn’t even 3 months old yet). Needless to say we didn’t stay for the entire game.

Is the PR lady...

Zack’s mom?

If I were a player, I would definitely take the opportunity to do something like that and run with it. I mean, how it easy would it be to grab some athletic tape and a Sharpie on your way out from the clubhouse…then you set up a little system where another guy takes each jersey out of the box, puts some tape over Butler’s nameplate on the back and you write in “Baconator” or “Zebra Cakes.” Or something. You get the idea.

That would be one hell of a prank. Butler would have to come up with something huge to top it. Imagine hundreds of fans running around during the game with “Zebra Cakes” jerseys.

PR Lady could have been

Zack’s lover. She was in her late 20’s/early 30’s. She was cool talked about how her fam are all Cardinals fans and she grew up fighting about Royals/Cardinals all the time.
