Elarton, 32, is contemplating retirement after 15 years in professional baseball. He's 6-foot-8 and his magical right arm was a gift from God. His arm feels better than it has in years; it's the rest of his body, he admits, that he is working harder than ever to maintain. Because he is a free agent, Elarton is waiting for the phone to ring - if it does again.

"I've thought about it," he said about retirement. "I'm not sure I'm there yet, but I'll know soon enough."

Time for a tribute thread

To the 518th Greatest Royal.

In 2004, Brian Anderson was given the honor of being the Royals’ Opening Day starter. How do you follow up an act like that? In 2005, Opening Day was Lima Time. Not many could continue such an…interesting trend.

Yet Scott Elarton stepped into those shoes and filled them handily.

Was at Elarton's Opening Day game.

He actually pitched very well that day in a loss, but I don’t think he ever pitched that well ever again.

That's true

I was mainly referring to the “honor” of being Opening Day pitcher, not so much his Opening Day performance.
