Shaken or Stirred?

Spring training is now 21 days away and I know most of us are jonesing for some hardball.  Football is essentially over and basketball is merely a sideline show between seasons.

I know that Royals Reviewers are spread far and wide and there are now many options that allow following the team from virtually anywhere.  There has been much healthy debate and criticism over the winter, but lets get on with this thing already.

My question is this:

I am plurging this year and getting the TV package.

In Iowa FSN Midwest gives us the Cardinals. We get maybe 5 Royals games per year. My new 22 inch monitor and me are ready for the action. Let’s play some ball……….

Iowa really gets screwed

I think they are blacked out for the Royals, Twins, Brewers, Cubs and White Sox.

Well, why not?

I mean, why would MLB want to actually develop any fan interest in the state? There aren’t that many people that live there anyway. They can just watch their corn grow and go to Iowa Cubs games.

go to Kevin Costner’s farm. Personally, I think they are spoiled and I applaud the blackouts

But how can it be "heaven" when...

every single MLB team in a 1000 mile radius is blacked out?

MLB.tv with Gamecast mixed in

I’d buy the Extra Innings package but no cable companies in my area offer it. Apparently being in Braves country, they assume if you have TBS, you don’t need to watch other teams.

Updates while sitting at Arvest Ballpark

Annual raises? No.
Bonuses? No.
New hires? No.
Travel budget? Slashed.
Naturals season tickets? Renewed and upgraded.

At least the company kept one perk.

Arvest is a beautiful place.

Made it to a game there last summer. Very impressed.

Can't wait to see it. Will be attending a game this year

I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.

Let me know when, I may have extra tix

Prices are only $8-$12, but free is still free.

I'm thinking about going to a game there too

I’d like to see some Royals prospects below Omaha, and have nothing but free time when the ORoyals are on the road. Figure I can catch at least one game of both the Naturals and Bees…

WTF, self?

by minda33 on Jan 25, 2009 8:43 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Same offer as above.

But I wouldn’t say “no” to a swap for Omaha tickets either. I made my first visit to Omaha last year during the CWS and was really impressed with the city and people. Now I just need an excuse to go back.

by RATW on Jan 26, 2009 5:23 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Assuming the ORoyals hire me back,

any of you can get tickets from me. Just holler a few days before you intend to come, and I’ll hook you up.

I’m glad you liked Omaha. In my opinion, it is a heck of a city. The people are nice/friendly/caring just like in a small town, but there are things to do and ballgames to see.

Uh oh Minda you shouldn't have extended that offer I will be wearin u out.

I’m gonna be all over this year checkin out games. Iowa City to see Josh Phegley C for Indiana, Creighton, Iowa Western, NW Arkansas, St. Louis, KC. I’m hoping Tanner Scheppers and Aaron Crow actually pitch versus the Salt Dogs this year too.

I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.

CWS

i’ve only been up there for a few games, but the atmosphere during those games is AWESOME. hope to catch a game this year if possible.

and the chances...

that Nebraska makes it this year are ZERO. not “slim to none,” but just “none.”

Johnny? Friday starter…gone
Weber? Saturday starter…gone
Prib? Sunday starter…gone
Jennings? Swingman/weekend reliever…gone
Jake? Starting 2B and #3 hitter…gone

also lost their top recruit from the 2008 class in 1B David Stewert (transferring to junior college) and two of their top pitching recruits for this year in P Curtis Peterson (Marlins) and Jake Kuebler (Royals). oh, and the catcher graduated (forgot his name) and he hit like .380 last year.

gonna be ugly this year i think…unfortunately.

I know thank god.

The CWS turns idiotic when Nebraska makes it. Bunch of nonbaseball fans roaming around from Grand Island and Norfolk scared out of their mind of Omaha. You mentioned it above but everyone west of Lincoln acts like Omaha is East St. Louis(freakin crazy to me). I love the baseball fans from LSU and Texas myself. GEAUX TIGERS !!! I encourage anyone from out of town to visit the CWS when LSU is here and sit tailgate with them. You’ll never meet nicer and more fun people in your life. GORILLA BALL RULES !!!

I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.

You’ll never meet nicer and more fun people in your life.

I don’t know. There seems to be no middle ground with LSU fans, either they are exceedingly nice or incredibly obnoxious. Maybe it depends on how much they’ve had to drink or whether they are playing your school. At any rate, LSU fans have quite a reputation (baseball fans included) in SEC circles — for being both super fans and super obnoxious.

Aaaah, I *love* LSU fans at the CWS!

I was at the game in which UNC knocked LSU out last summer, and I happened to be standing with 2 LSU fans. They were upset, but stayed upbeat and eager to get the most of their visit to Omaha.

As we all moved out of the stadium, an older Tigers fan backed his Jeep up to a curb and pulled out NINE coolers of all kinds of beverage, and just gave it all to the passers by. He had figured that the Tigers would be in the Series longer, so he would need all of that booze, but once he had no more LSU ball to watch, he wanted to do something good for others with it.

LSU fans = Good Samaritans of Booze.

LSU fan

yea I was at a game when I was like seven or eight and sitting by this really nice guy who was an LSU fan and he gave me a ton of free stuff. granted most of it was cheesy little cheap things, but it was really nice of him.

East St. Louis???

Normally comparing East St. Louis and Omaha to each other would blow my mind, but people from western Nebraska are pretty scared of big cities. Reminds me of how when I worked in downtown KC, all of my high school friends were scared of it; just because there was barbed wire on the restaurant’s roof.

Omaha’s a nice city. My pledge brother grew up there, and my favorite cousin works there so I may head up for a couple of days after catching a game in KC to see if I can watch Omaha, too.

On my computer or listening when I’m at work or sitting on my white trash patio soaking up the sun.

You can sign in to the same mlb.com audio account on multiple computers at the same time.

MLB Extra Innings

I work in a sports bar, so I have my boss put it up on some screen without the Cards on it. On my off days, again I watch it in bars. It may seem like I spend too much time in bars during the summer, but during losing streaks, its the best place to be.
