A new Jazayerli is born
I'm sure many of you have seen this already, but Rany just announced on Friday that his wife gave birth to a daughter on January 18th. Amira Rayanne Jazayerli. Good first name. Can't say I like the middle name.
Perhaps 2009 will be an auspicious year for the birth of new female Royals fan sabermetricians. First Amira Jazayerli and then in June little Miss NYRoyal. And 20 years from now those two will be crunching fifth generation Hit f/x and Field f/x data and laughing at their old dads who still remember when OPS mattered.
Oh and Rany talks a little Royals baseball too, mostly about how the Royals should offer Greinke 4/44.

my older daughter is a senior math major in college
with an interest in baseball. There is a math prof there who does lots of baseball stats types of things and always gives a lecture on his work during spring training time. I’ll be interested to hear what he has to say this year.
Congratulations and get as much sleep as you can now. That is my advice.

It must be worse than we feared
His wife’s mom’s basement!
Kansas City Royals: your 2006 and 2007 NL Central champions!
Thanks everyone
I’m going to bring this up every couple of months so I can get more congratulations. Actually my wife is doing the hard part. But she is milking the pregnancy for all it’s worth. I’ve essentially become her slave. I guess that’s a fair trade for nine months.

You'd think so
But you’re wrong.
It just means you’ll have two masters instead of one. Motherhood is much more milkable – in more than one sense of the word – than pregnancy is.
But of course, it’s well worth it…otherwise we men wouldn’t subject ourselves to it voluntarily.

We'll see
Since my consulting work is primarily done from home, I’ll be more of the primary care giver to this child. So I don’t think my wife will have much to milk (pun not intended). Maybe I’ll have some guilt cards to play! [fingers crossed]

I work from home as well
and I take plenty care of my kids as well. There’s no greater feeling in the world than the fact that when I have to be away for the day at my company’s offices, the kids are constantly asking when I’ll be home. Having grown up (like most people, probably) with father out of the house every day as a given, it’s something I’ll never get tired of.
I don’t know about you, but I’m a much heavier sleeper than my wife, so much I’d love to help then, she ends up getting up at night 90% of the time, and I’m usually trying to help her get sleep during the day. So, for all I do during the day, I can’t imagine my contribution will ever be truly equal. That, and the fact that she’s a much better person than I am in general.

Wow, do any of us work in an office?
I also work from home, and I feel it is tremendous opportunity to see my son every day. I can’t imagine not seeing him until 5 or 6, then only seeing him for an hour or two before its off to bed for him.

I thought you were in law school
You have paying work, too? Wow, that’s a heck of a load.

I've been out of law school for sometime
Taking graduate classes for public administration though. One class at a time, so I’m doing it as slowly as I’m finishing the Top 100 list.

I just hope you realize
that you actually have to pay attention to your child and care for her. She’s not going to be raised by a bunch of numbers. There’s no mathetical formula for childrearing success. I just thought I’d tell you, since you obviously don’t know.

Can kids be raised
In their grandmother’s basements?

I'm going to develop sabmetric parenting
I’m going to challenge all of the old assumptions. I’m going to try new things and discover market inefficiencies. Who says you can’t raise a kid in a closet? I’ll prove everyone wrong.

When it comes to feeding babies
the most important metric is On-Face Percentage. Don’t let counting stats fool you.

Congrats!
The third Top Ramen child is also due this year in April.
Kids will make you laugh, cry, cry while laughing, and scratch your head at the decisions they make. Years of being a Royals fan will have you well-prepared for this experience.
Congrats
I think I’m going to stop at one. And my pregnant wife is already making me laugh and cry on a daily basis. The kid should be interesting.

"Stop at one" reminds me of this story...
As I said elsewhere in this thread, I work from home, and very seldom have to go into my company’s office. So on those rare occasions that I go in, I’ll meet some new guys, who naturally do not know my work habits.
So one day back in 2004 (when I only had 5 children), I went into the office, and one of these new folks sees the big picture of my five kids as the wallpaper on my computer, and he asks me, “So, are you going to stop at 5?”
Clueless me replied, “Usually I work till 6, later if I’ve got a real problem to solve…”
It never occurred to me (until he clarified) that he was asking if I’m planning on having more kids!

This thread is making me feel all warm and fuzzy.
You guys are so cute. The wee kids of the world could always use more proud and dedicated daddies!
How old are your kids, Ramen?
WTF, self?
I am imagining a world 15 years from now...
when one of the RR kids starts their own version of RR for kids, and they all congregate online to talk about what nerds their fathers were when they were conceived.
(Not that I am not a nerd—but fatherhood is not in my immediate future, for which I and my future children are extremely thankful.)
and ps:
my sincerest congratulations to the dads-to-be here. for reals.
