Clearly Dayton and Zack

cannot resist the plaintive begging of Rany Jazayerli’s new baby girl. “4 years – Do it for the children,” Rany says on his blog, and a day later, it is done!

seriously, +1

Farnsworth, Jacobs, and Willie B? Forgiven. I’d still rather have Furcal than those three stooges, but Moore’s offseason grade just jumped quite a few levels.

For reference, recent extensions for young pre-FA pitchers.

Scott Kazmir
3 years/$28.5M
09:$6M, 10:$8M, 11:$12M, 12:$13.5M club option ($2.5M buyout)

Cole Hamels
3 years/$20.5M
09:$4.35M, 10:$6.65M, 11:$9.5M

Jake Westbrook
3 years/$33M
08:$10M, 09:$10M, 10:$11M

Dan Haren
4 years/$44.75M
09:$7.5M, 10:$8.25M, 11:$12.75M, 12:$12.75M, 13:$15.5M club option ($3.5M buyout)

Jake Peavy
3 years/$52M
10:$15M, 11:$16M, 12:$17M, 13:$22M club option

His contract will look interesting

Zack from his previous quotes seems very pleased by the offseason moves I wouldn’t be shocked if KC got a slight discount.

I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.

by kcscoliny on Jan 26, 2009 1:27 PM EST up reply actions

and he was only seeking 4.4M in arb this year.

So maybe along the lines of Hamels contract?

by KC Chris on Jan 26, 2009 1:28 PM EST up reply actions

It probably looks a lot like the Haren or Kazmir deals

Both extensions were, like Greinke, for buying out the last two years of arbitration plus at least one free agent year (two for Haren plus team option for a third and one for Kazmir plus team option for second).

Peavy’s contract was strictly for free agent years, and Hamel’s contract only covered his arbitration years.

Anything close to the Kazmir and Haren extensions is a great deal for the Royals. If so, nice work Dayton.

Wow. A miracle!

We will compete once again!

WS in 2012 with Hos and Melville and Duffy and Montgomery and Kila and Mous and Jones and ect, ect, ect!

That's why we play the season on paper.

Since Meche got 5-55,

Maybe Zack wants 4-23 to match his shirt too.

Maybe the Boras rumor created some momentum

At least the “this site is too negative”/“no, it’s not” caterwauling should subside for awhile.

Terrible signing

“Since the Royals don’t plan to compete for the next four years, this is just a huge waste of money. Wake me when the Royals make a smart move this winter.”

Any guess on contract terms?

At first blush, I would go with 6, 8, 11, 14 (so, 4/39)?

I don’t suppose we get lucky enough to have a club option for 2013, do we?

Holy shit

are you serious?

It’s amazing how my opinion of GMDM’s offseason did a complete 180 in less than a few seconds after reading that

Waiting for April.

Greinke’s best pitching is still ahead of him and he will live up to the hype, I believe he has started to mature and will finally bring the fuckin pain everytime he takes the ball!!
