Am I the only one who could care less about the Royal’s affiliates? If there are in fact over 80 of them then by your pace this feature will be going on for the next decade…NO! GOD NO! When shows aren’t popular, networks cancel them. Take a hint from them and take this lame horse out back and blow its brains out…figuratively. Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

That's a pretty assholish thing to say
One of the great things about RoyalsReview.com is that we talk about stats, tools, vets, prospects, other teams, other sports, radio, TV, poetry, literature, etc. And, most especially, there is good analysis and very good writing here. Will’s (royalsreview) series of profiles of the Royals Radio Network and RoyalsRetro’s series on the top 100 Royals are some of the best things on this site. They aren’t about how many HR’s a Royals first baseman is going to hit in the coming season, but they are very well written, very interesting and always a great read.
But there isn’t anything that everyone will like. And those that don’t like it can just click on it, or click on it and quickly click away from it. At most, it robs you of a few seconds of your life, just like flipping through the TV channels past shows you don’t want to see. Wildcat (and you do that proud name a disservice), if you don’t like that series, then just ignore it. Don’t waste our time by whining about it.

i agree...very assholish...
whats the point in talking shit on them? skipping over an affiliate profile once every two months takes about 10 seconds out of your year…less time than it took to write that response.

Agreed
Have you ever clicked around the other baseball blogs on SBNation? Most of them suck. This has to be one of the best sports community blogs out there.

I like the affiliates series quite a bit
I think the Great Plains gets really overlooked when it comes to American romanticism. People fall in love with the classic deep south and its manners and charm. The Scandanavian no-nonsense of the upper midwest is seen by many as endearing. The rust belt of Ohio/Michigan/Pennsylvania is seen as gritty and the backbone of America.
The great plains, the breadbasket of America is far too often overlooked, and I think Will does an excellent job capturing some of the plainness of the area, and I mean that in the best sense possible. It is plain, reassuringly so. They have their modest claims of fame, their peppy cheer squads, their small colleges, their once thriving downtown…these are the towns that helped build America.
I appreciate the series Will, keep it up!

no, no, just greeting irony with more irony
nothing more.
I'd consider 22 in less than three years a pretty good pace actually
2006: 9
2007: 5
2008: 7 (I actually got married this year)
2009: ??
I’d kinda like to do more, but there is something to be said for keeping it occasional.
I like the pace
They are particularly good for offseason months where very little is happening and for extended losing streaks. It’s often good to have something to focus on other than cruel or boring reality.

is it just me or has this off-season been crazy?
the signings have seemed pretty spaced out, and in the middle there was the winter meetings
around new years I was a little bored, then bam: Bloomquist & now Greinke day
and we’ve still barely touched on the TEahen to Second thing (relatively)
Yes, it has been very active and weird
A lot of action before and around the winter meetings, then the tender/non-tenders and then Bloomquist and now Greinke.

Been a very boring off-season
Unless you a Royals fan, which is odd because its usually quite the opposite.
Relive Royals History at royalsretro.blogspot.com
Well.
Will, im just mad at you until 5:52 PM Tomorrow… Ive decided to be mad at you for a 24 hour time period for your post about Greinke’s contract.. But at 5:53 we are all good again
Bloomquist. God? Or just an illusion? You be the judge.
I thought the feature on St. Jo was quite good.
It gives the people of the profiled area a chance to blog in and add to your piece, and really seems to contribute to the site. It seems a chance to show your more humanistic side. Of course, you keep dissing the Zach signing, we’ll have to off you.

WOW NY Royal and I agree on something
I cannot believe someone would say that! I love reading about the other affiliates as it is interesting information and gives a sense of “community” here. Those pieces and the countdown of greatest Royals are my two favorite features on this blog. Please keep them going!
What a twit.
Will, the affiliate profiles are awesome. Hell, when I first came to this site, reading the previous ones was the first thing I did, just ’cause it was neat.
Just remember, it’s your blog. You write about what interests YOU, and ignore the inevitable douchebaggery from people who apparently haven’t figured out how NOT to click on a link or use their scroll bar.
Sarcasm™. It's the new gravy.
I don't like everything written on this site
Hell, I don’t even like everything that I write here. But I don’t mind skipping over the things that don’t interest me. This site should, hopefully, have broad appeal. This means, by necessity, that there will be some things on it that don’t appeal to you. I don’t like “Two and a Half Men,” but I don’t complain to CBS about it. I just watch the CBS shows that interest me and ignore the rest.

"Two and a Half Men"
I could probably write a good sized article on the reasons why this show is the worst series to be shown on national television. Maybe i will, and relate it to the royals, nah i wont. But that show is terrible and i HAVE complained to CBS about it.

i love the radio spots
..at least as much as the “real” posts. not because i’m interested in Royals radio affiliates so much, though i’m definitely always interested to see what each piece brings. i’m more a fan of Will’s comic understatement and the radio spots are where he goes full bore into that place. reminds me of James Thurber or Donald Barthelme or any number of McSweeney’s-type writers. honestly guys, read The Battle for Grass Creek again. it’s so grammatically well crafted it’s not even about baseball anymore, it’s just writing. might as well be the last page of the New Yorker. good show, Will!

the radio profiles are great
They’re a nice break from some of the usual bleak, wintry stuff.
Bleak, wintry stuff:
- Gload’s existence on the team
- Bloomquist
- Dismay at Hillman’s love for Gload
- Praising Ryan Shealy
- Praising / Hating / Praising Dayton
Don't listen to him, Will
Obviously this is the type of guy who never reads “human interest” articles in newspapers.
I think the series is a ton of fun to read, and of course who can’t enjoy the nice, pure girl-next-door high-school cheerleaders and small-town beauty queens as islands in the vast sea of Florida Mermaid and Jenn Sterger images?

I like the diversity of articles here
You get some stuff on the current Royals, some trade rumor talk, some history stuff, some stuff on affiliates. Very diverse. Its better than 20 threads on “what do you think Aviles will hit this year” or “what would you trade Greinke for” or “will we sign Dunn?” that you get on other Royals forums.
There are lots of threads I don’t go to because I’m not interested in. Don’t see why others don’t do the same. No need to trash them.

Just wanted to echo
I am also a big fan of the affiliates series. Sure, it’s not something I’m rushing over to read like breaking news but it’s a great, leisurely read on a slow day. Keep up the good work.
I don't usually read them
unless I’m really bored, but I never mind seeing them on the main page. If it doesn’t interest you, you just scroll past it. It takes 2 seconds.
That is what you call unconstructive criticism
It is not really my cup of tea either, but I appreciate the hard work you put in. If the site was starving for baseball content and you were doing these every other day or something I’d complain, but there is plenty of good analysis to keep me busy, so I am not bothered by it in the least. I usually skim through them, however, I have to admit I really enjoyed the one on my home town.

Radio Profiles are Great
The two articles that I make sure to read are the Radio profiles and the top 100 Royals of all time list. Each of these is astonishingly well written, often witty, always funny. I can only imagine the amount of time and effort that must be invested to creating those gems. They are truly an asset to the site.
As to the person who wrote “Sofa King We Todd Ed,” grow up a little bit. First of all that is your tag line is unoriginal (Think Aqua Teen Hunger Force, chicken arise), secondly, you don’t have to read the article. Some of us actually like it and look forward to future installments. Third, what is the basis that you have for claiming that the articles are unsuccessful? Finally, just because you have an opinion about someone else’s work, you do not have to voice it. A large part of growing up is realizing when to speak, but more importantly . . . when not to speak. While you may be slightly harmed and offended by having to scroll past the radio profiles, those people who put hard work and effort into them are hurt even more by your words.

I like
the radio affiliate profiles very much. I will concede that this topic might seem boring on the surface, but one has to admit that Will’s stylish wit can turn the boring into the enjoyable.
Also love the Royals top 100 from Retro.
Gotta give some props to “Poem of the Week” as well. That’s served a purpose – I never took much literature classes in HS or college, but will admit that I get excited whenever Will posts a poem to read. Not sure why poetry wasn’t interesting to me when I was young, but judging by my reaction now, I missed out. Thanks for turning me on to that, Will.
