Nothing better to do right now.
After seeing the other post showing overwhelming Yankee support coast to coast, I started thinking about how next years standings might shake out. Plus I've got nothing else to do till I go back to work soon.
I realize it's early and a lot could still change. Just for fun though, what do you guys think? What's the final order in each division. Who are the wildcard winners and what's your World Series prediction.

I really don't expect any powerhouse teams in the NL cept the cubs, ....much as I dislike them.

Dislike the Cubbies?
I thought everyone liked the “lovables”

Is Sheets interested in signing?
They do seem to be getting Trevor Hoffman….

thanks for reminding me how much I dislike Pete Rose

Dustin Pedroia is the new Pete Rose
Dan Shaughnessy told me so. God, that was a terrible column.

gotta have a link
Pedroia annoys me (granted, I’m not a Red Sox fan), but whether not he deserved the MVP this year ( say no, but it wasn’t a terrible choice), I think we can safely say he’s not the next Eckstein.
Hell of a player. Fangraphs has him at 3.7 WAR ihn 2007, 6.6 in 2008. Um, yeah, that pretty f-ing awesome.
Long way to go before he’s reached the Pete Rose level as a player, or as an asshole, though.

Exactly
But Shaugnee annointed him the next Pete Rose, somehow. I’ll grab the linky for you when I’m not sleep deprived and thinking about drinking myself to death over the signing of Bloomquist.

He still does some things well,
but I can’t defend the Farnsworth, HoRam, and Ballgame signings at all.

i'd be REALLY shocked to see the indians in the playoffs
let alone getting to the WS. i see one good starting pitcher (who overachieved last year) and a bunch of maybes.

basically any shuffling of the AL Central
absent the royals winning, would not surprise me, lots os strange teams

Anyone in the AL Central
But I can see that in the other divisions
We hope not LA in the NL
At least we in Chi-Town hope not.

I think the Rays...
will at least finish ahead of the Sox, and might beat the Yanks for the East pennant. Adding Burrell to that lineup is killer. In fact, I could see the East having two 100-win teams (Yanks and Rays). Regardless, the AL wildcard is definitely coming from the East.

Im just gonna do the AL for right now
AL EAST
Rays – 102-60 – Addition of Pat Burrell, Matt Joyce, and Joe Nelson is deadly to an already great team with a great pitching staff.. All the needed was a couple more bats.
Yankees – 96-66 – I really still dont think they will win the division even after all they have done but will win the wildcard.
Redsox – 89-73 – I just think the Rays and Yankees are a lot better and have done more shit and they really have done nothing this offseason
Toronto – 82-80 – Good team.. not great. but good in a very tough divison that will hurt there record
Baltimore – 60-102 – they do have some young talent on this team but just there yet.. The pitching staff is just ugly and so is the bullpen..
AL CENTRAL
Indians – 94-68 – I think injuries hurt this team badly last year and with hafner, victor martinez, and fausto back healthy they can do big things again especially with the addition of Kerry Wood
Twins – 91-71 – I Dont know how they do it. But they do it and they will be there again next year
Royals – 88-74 – Can Surprise teams next year.. I Think the Mike Jacobs and Coco Additions will be great for the team as it will provide better defense and also better protection for other guys like JoGui
Whitesox – 84-78 – Who really knows which direction this team is going.
Tigers – 81-81 – With a very questionable starting rotation and bullpen this team could struggle worse than i have them.
AL WEST
A’s – 93-69 – I’m going out on a huge limb right now but i just have a feeling about this team.. With the addition of Matt Holiday, and Jason Giambi they will be fantastic.. The A’s always have a good starting rotation and a good bullpen.. I Think these new players will help there younger hitters advance.. I could be wrong but dont say i didnt call it if it happens.
Angels – 91-71 – I Think the loss of K-Rod, Teixera, and Garland will hurt them more than they think it will.. while they still could win the division i personally dont see it.
Texas – 85-77- If this team could just get some pitching it would be so dominant.. but they dont. if they can get ben sheets i think they could be considerably better team if he stays healthy.
Mariners – 78-84 – I Think the moves they made this offseason will help them a lot. Especially in the long run.. Not this year though
Werd.

Wow, the AL teams will go 1214-1054...
… to pull that off, the AL will have to win 203 of 254 interleague games or .800. The numbers are usually high but not that high.

I wouldn't argue, 'cept
in AL East, I’d go TB, NY, BOS.
Mostly just because I want Bos to end third or worse. But, they do have some veteran guys that are breaking down. NY pitching is still suspect in my mind (warning amateur scouting eye, no stat support). TB added to a good team. TB may have overachieved this year but now that they have confidence, perhaps they can continue to strut the stuff out there.

The teams that will surprise will be
The Royals, A’s, Marlins, and…that’s it.
And man, the AL East, NL East, and AL Central are all going to beat each other up alot.
It’s going to be hard for any of those teams to win more than 90 games.
by Royal from Queens on Jan 8, 2009 12:35 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
Nice call about the Royals & A's but Marlins?
Royals can compete in this “weak” division.
By that I mean there’s no clear cut choice of a power house to run away with the division.
A’s can compete but will not win the West. Angels look like the favorites
Really the Marlins? Why? Phillies & Mets look like the top two beasts from the East.
Possibly one of those teams can be the wild card, while the other wins the division. That’s IF the Mets don’t choke

Lemme explain!
I don’t expet them to win the division but they’ll certainly be competetive.
I think the Marlins will certainly make the Mets and Phillies sweat a bit.
A rotation of: Ricky Nolasco, Josh Johnson, Anibal Sanchez, Chris Volstad, Andrew Miller,
And who knows maybe this is the year Rick Vandenhurk pitches according to his minor league numbers, they also have blast from the past Dan Meyer for depth.
They have a nice bullpen with Baby Leo, Pinto, and Lindstrom.
They’re lineup is solid! They’re only lacking in the defense department, they’re pretty bad there.
All in all, the Marlins are going to annoy the hell out the North-Easterners.

The Marlins
D is pretty bad, but some people think Han-Ram and even Uggla took a step forward in that department this year. They aren’t Rollins and Utley, but if it “sticks” (and it’s just one year), that’s a big boost.
Getting Cantu off of third will help, as well

han-ram
i don’t think he was/is ever as bad as people said he is/was. he is not a plus defender but clearly he has the tools to be at least OK there.

I was privlidged enough to see alot of Han-Ram and Uggla
And I guess if you want to be technical, they did take a step forward on defense but they were still pretty bad.
I don’t to say their errors single-handedly lost the team games but it defenitely was a factor. Their bad defense made an impact.
Both Han-Ram and Uggla have the same problem they have bad hands so they bobble alot of balls or boot them.
