Hiram was on 810 today

Said he’s currently reading "Atlas Shrugged’ by Ayn Rand.

And to think, I used to like the guy

Or, I can tell myself that he was just reading it to gain a greater knowledge of socio-political theory, not because he heard Rush Limbaugh said it was a good read.

shocked that Rush would like it

given that her hatred of religion rivals that of any ex-fundamentalist I’ve ever met

then again, maybe he liked, shall we say, “laissez-faire” attitude toward extra-marital sex

Basically, she’s a free market, libertarian version of the bulk the overschool and undereducated “big names” in leftiest academe, only without the bullshit academic imprimatuer. She’s the same right down to the cultish atmosphere around here disciples…

Limbaugh is actually more of a uber-capitalist conservative

I don’t think he really cares much about the social conservative stuff. That’s just red meat he throws to the rubes. It riles up the base, so he uses it. What he cares about is money. “I’ve got mine and you can’t have it.” And then he pretends he’s protecting freedom.

yeah, I thought about that right after I posted it

well, more accurately, I think Limbaugh’s a cynic who doesn’t give a crap about politics, only fame and money

That's what fame and money do to you

he started out caring.

It's hard to say

I think he’s a genuine conservative. I don’t think he’s completely fabricating his beliefs. I do think he’s tailoring them to what he’s found to be the most profitable audience. I think he cares about policies and political outcomes; I just think he cares about himself, his money and his fame more. The same could and should be said bout Michael Moore, in my opinion.

that last line

I thought i was the only one of the (broadly and generically speaking) left-of-center persuasion who thought that RL=MM, but I’m glad to see more and more people think that, as well

I think they are similar

But not quite equivalent. I guess the fact that one is on the radio 5 days a week and the other make a movie every two years makes them apples and oranges, or at least major difference of degree. I used to like Michael Moore. I thought “Roger and Me” was brilliant. But the more I’ve seen of him, heard about him and read about him, the less there is to like. He’s willing to lie to make a stronger point. He really acts like he’s more interested in the fame of Michael Moore than in progressive principles. When anyone disagrees with him or challenges him, he isn’t willing to engage in a serious debate. His work and his personality does a disservice to progressive causes.
