Now let me get this straight. They canceled the game today because it was too cold? Comonman. That is why people have the perception that baseball players, out of the four major sports are sissies. Are you kidding me? It's cold? Put on some thermal wear and go out there and play. I understand snow, rain. I got it. But cold? Are you kidding me? ......That's what I'm saying. Baseball players are sissies...... put on a skull cap man and go out there and pitch.

Didn't Charles Barkley play inside a building free from the elements?
also, today was the greatest day ever to watch Baseball Tonight. There was only one game to talk about, the demise of the Cardinals season.
Holy Shit!!!...Peterson resigned...Am I dead?...Is This Heaven?

It wasn't the cold so much as the snow right?
I haven’t seen any pictures, but i heard it was snowing quite hard.
Maybe Barkley should get off his ass, get out of his sissy heated arena and shoot some hoops in the snow. He can come to my house, it’s 19 degrees with 3 inches on the ground- and the kids have a hoop!
Asshole.

It was the cold
At the scheduled gametime, the temperature was about 25 but there was no snow. There had been light snow earlier in the day.

Fair enough
Then maybe he has a point. 25 really isn’t that bad at all. I thought there was snow.

Trajan Langdon Used
To practice outside with gloves on; I’ll bet Barkley never did that. Langdon also played minor league baseball in the Padres’ system, so he’s kind of a baseball player, too. Barkley should shut up, but they probably should have played, too.
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

I’m not sure how early in the day the decision was made — the temperature was still below 20 at late as 10am or so, and that was probably the impetus for rounding all the decision makers up for a conference call or whatever. With the World Series extending into November for the first time on purpose (not the first time in fact, which of course was 2001), perhaps MLB is already a little bit sensitive to criticisms regarding games played under unfavorable conditions so late in the year, and they pulled the plug on yesterday’s game in order to forestall more of that.
Anyway, regarding Barkley’s nonsense: of course the “sissies” have no influence over when the game is played. Any wonk in Selig’s office who frets over potential damage to baseball’s image that could be incurred by playing a nationally televised game under frigid conditions would have more influence than any actual player.
