1. Probably Greinke’s 15 (I think) strikeout start against the Indians, when he had 12 or 13 by the middle of the game. (Pauses, looks up for verification.) Yea, it was 15 Ks, including striking out the side in the 5th (all swinging) to get to 10.
2. Billy Butler’s offensive emergence.
3. I’ve floated this before, but I’d love to see the Royals try to expand/strengthen their regional reach by playing real games in Wichita, Tulsa, or Omaha/Lincoln or somewhere in mid-Missouri. The Rays did this a few years ago, playing a series in Orlando. I think it’d be cool. Never gonna happen, but it would be cool.
4. Not sure about how I feel about this, which is why I asked. I think going to a baseball game is a good early date, but there are risks involved.
5. I think a hot dog has to be involved.
6. Personal age aside, I think I’d take 2009. The late 70s seem like a generally lame time in the US. I have fond memories of the late 1980s however, which combined with the early 1990s, I remember as a really hopeful time.
7. Yes and No. I’d like to see an hour long episode.

1 – May 7th afternoon game. Banny pitched well, 20,000 well-behaved, loud (but cheering at the right moments) school kids there made for a great atmosphere (to my surprise), my husband’s birthday and I got him the message board thing, beautiful sunny day, ROYALS WIN! (Although for pure baseball, the Greinke 15 strikeout game would probably be the winner).
2 – Billy Butler’s hitting developed and he is not-embarrassing at first base (although Banny’s pitch F/X interview and his pitching fairly well until his shoulder fell off is awesome, too).
3 – Free tickets to me? Every home game????
4 – Good I guess? If you have the right date-partner. My husband and I go there about 15-20 times a year, so obviously we like it.
5 – 1st inning-Italian sausage with onions/peppers/mustard; 3rd inning-Frosty Malt; 6th inning-Nachos with cheese (it’s a progression)
6 – I have lived in all of them, so I’d say 2009 as I don’t know how it ends yet, and I’m kind of curious.
7 – Haven’t been watching the Office lately, so it’s not really on my radar.

So hard not to be snarky, but I'll try
1. Zack’s had so many awesome games that it all blends together; maybe the Cleveland comback, but seriously, probably George Brett’s (holds up three fingers) rant has to be tops.
2. Butler becoming a very good hitter a couple seasons after being offered to the Mariners for Yuniesky Betancourt.
3. “Be one of the first 5,000 peoplel to the park and win a chance to call a game with Ryan and Frank!”
4. 2
5. Never had it. Probably some sort of really good hot sandwich — pastrami, BBQ beef, or even a great burger.
6. 2009
7. No, not really. But I’m not regretting it anyway. While The Office has clearly (and expectedly) declined, I hold to one of my earlier theories: getting Jim and Pam together “works” in a way because now they simply have taken the drama out of that relationship. If they went back and forth any longer, we’d be sick of it by now. This way, they can remain the relatively stable, “normal” audience-spectator reps in the show while the wackiness whirls around them. A surprisingly good choice, if that’s what they go with.
And hey, it can’t be any worse than watching Parks and Rec while all KT’s followers on Twitter kiss his ass and pretend its good.

Parks...
I don’t think its terrible, it just seems a little limited. It would have been better as a movie. Give us the one storyline about the attempt to build the park.

They are utterly wasting Louis CK
Actually, there is a lot of talent on that show that is being wasted. I don’t know how they could go so wrong, but I just find that show so unfunny and I WANT to like it. It feels like it should work, but it doesn’t.

1. Going to the K and standing in the outfield under the fountains for the first time. (even if we did loss the game)
2. Banny rebounding as a starter. I’ve always been a fan.
3. “Baseball Bats” giveaway for Billy ‘Bam Bam’ Butler in the shape of a club.
4. 6, provides enough entertainment while providing plenty of time to talk. Downsides: expensive food/drinks, difficult to bail if the date goes south.
5. Shybogan brat with onions, peppers, sour kraut, and barbecue sauce.
6. 1989, I could get a job, watch the fall of communism, and see Guns ‘n Roses live in concert but I would miss my iPhone.
7. I don’t watch the Office so no, I couldn’t care less

I love fun!
1. I saw Alex hit his first home run after coming off the DL, in person. That was fun.
2. Probably Billy Butler. When my Mom started getting into the Royals again, she picked him as her favorite player, just because of his number. She had no idea who he was. And now he’s awesome.
3. Give away pine tar and tobacco.
4. My girlfriend and I went on a date at the K, and it was great. She’s a Cardinals fan, and I got her to buy a Royals shirt. She cheered along with everyone else. And then she posted the pictures on Facebook and one of her asshole Cardinal fan friends randomly started trashing the Cardinals and saying, “George Brett isn’t as good as Stan Musial.” But yeah, it was a good date.
5. I usually stop at HiBoy before and get one of those awesome double cheeseburgers.
6. 1979. Better music at that time. My long hair and I would fit in. But maybe I don’t want to fit in? Hmm.
7. Not really. I like The Office, but it’s not one of those shows I can’t miss.

interesting
1. Zack’s hot start in April.
2. Butler and Callaspo’s offensive emergence.
3. Sabermetrics Day.
4. Never been.
5. Ben’s Chili Bowl (at Nationals stadium) and a Miller Lite. I hate both of those things in a non-ballpark setting, but somehow, someway, baseball makes them taste amazing.
6. 2009 hands down. The technology available to us cannot be beat. I mean seriously, can anyone actually remember life without high-speed internet? I have trouble remembering life without wireless.
7. i do not watch the office.
Waiting for April.

Like how did people know directions to businesses before Google Maps? I know people managed quite well, but I would probably be pretty helpless if I went back in time to 1985.

1. Greinke’s 15k game broke my streak of great seats/terrible game, but I think the hot start by him and the Royals was the best memory of the season.
2. Butler actually being good. It was to the point where I thought the Royals were incapable of developing anyone worthwhile.
3. Free Beer Night
4. 6
5. I hate the food at the K. This year is its all-time low.
6. Maybe this question should be more specific. The job market was better in 1999.
7. I don’t enjoy the Office. It feels to me like the same joke told over and over again. I don’t think I’ve watched it in three years.

Aramark
This year the food was noticeably worse than 2008. Stale hot dog buns, where the bun is huge and the hot dog is bland and tasteless. Jalapenos for the nachos on the condiment bar What is that? Why should you have to make an extra stop, or risk that they have run out, not to mention someone could have put thier dirty fingers in them…sorry this is becoming a rant, but the Royals need to check into seeing if some other company can provide their concessions in 2010.

1. Zack’s April, really was unreal
2. Hot and Cold Luke Hochevar, not many pitchers can be effiecient (80 pitch CG) with Ks and control (13K 0 BB game) and not be effective, I always saw him as a steady middle of the rotation guy, but he has flashed ace stuff all the sudden. 2010 is be interesting to see how it comes together.
3. I like RR’s idea of having a low key series or 2 played outside of KC for regional strengthening
4. I did it a couple weeks ago and it was really nice. I would rate it better than a lot of other stadiums since it isn’t as overwhelming crowded. Depending on your relationship, “kiss cam” can be awkward, even if your not even shown.

Happy answers
1.) Zack’s cover on SI with Joe’s story – will continue to be a good memory because of how his season has finished.
2.) Billy Butler’s emergence and maturation into our best hitter.
3.) Glass buys everybody a beer when the Royals commit an error.
4.) Kauffman could be good for a date if your date can tolerate baseball, you have good seats, and you don’t care about the game too much!
5.) beer, BBQ pork sandwich, beer, peanuts, beer, peanuts, beer, frozen malt
6.) 2009 – nothing like the present, baby
7.) Since this is a positive jam, yes. I’m sure it will be funny and not too weepy.

1. The cat incident. It was the first time I got my wife to even look at a tv screen while baseball was being played. (notice that my favorite moment had very little to do with baseball)
2. The development of Frank White as a very good color announcer. (again not related to what was on the field)
3. Show pictures around town with the old scoreboard in the background saying, “Have you seen me?” Get people curious about what’s going on at the K.
4. Only had one chance to make it back to KC this summer. But I’ve always thought the K was good place for a date. Sheridans and fountains on a hot summer day seals it.
5. Pulled Pork sandwich and a brat with sauerkraut and a 20oz Boulevard
6. 1989. Could have seen Bo in his prime and could relive the Chiefs glory years. Also could have begun lobbying that year to prevent the 1994 strike.

1. What is your favorite Royals memory this season?
The huge smile on Zack’s face after winning 3-0 in a CG shutout where he just looked unhittable on May 4. He could tell as we all could that he was starting to put it all together for a very special season.
2. Favorite Royals story/development (non-Greinke) of 2009.
Butler actually looks like a really good hitter.
3. What is one crazy marketing/sales/promotion the Royals should try in 2010?
Its not that crazy, but they should team together with Cordish and Highwoods to provide free shuttles from the Plaza and Power and Light District. For crazy idea, how bout having kids play Wii on the megajumbotron after the game?
4. Rate the K as a date location.
On a scale of 1-10, about a four.
5. What is you ideal ballpark meal.
Grilled sausage/brat with onions and stadium mustard, cold Boulevard Pale Ale. After a few innings, garlic fries or nachos with cheese.
6. Would you rather be living in 1979, 1989, 1999, 2009?
2009. But if Royals baseball were the only thing in my life, 1979 might be pretty cool. But ugh, what a terrible era otherwise.
7. Are you looking forward to The Office wedding?
Yes. It’ll be a sappy episode, but a bad episode of The Office is still better than the best episode of half the shows on TV.

Here goes:
1. Being able to read RoyalsRetros choices twice.
actually, seeing Zack pitch so well. I was really happy I got his autograph in Spring Training. It is good to see the boy smile.
2) Billy Butler
3) This is old-school, but it was really cool when they would send a squad up to Omaha and play the AAA Royals. It was fun to see some of the old Omaha Royals in powder blue. This would increase interest in the KC club.
4) 9, and I say that because Ms. Buddyball would enjoy going to the game with me.
5) probably brat and beer, lots of beer
6) I have enjoyed living in all of those years. 1979 was grad school and I loved that, but I can’t complain about 2009.
7) yes, looking forward to how Michael will screw it up.

Here we go...
1. What is your favorite Royals memory this season?
Greinkes’ quote about not needing the bull pen right before he pitched another complete game. I know this isn’t comparable but it brought to mind Babe Ruth pointing the bat epic statuesque thing.
2. Favorite Royals story/development (non-Greinke) of 2009.
Yes, Billy Butler for sure, however Banny has always been a favorite of mine, I really liked this season for him (until the arm thing) and his pitch F/x stuff just exemplified why I liked him.
3. What is one crazy marketing/sales/promotion the Royals should try in 2010?
I am going to go with Royals Retro on this one, having kids (and adults) play the Wii on the Jumbo!!! That would be epic!!!!
4. Rate the K as a date location.
Date with a girlfriend (1-10) ~5
Date with wife that loves Royals ~infinity
5. What is you ideal ballpark meal.
Ideal for the classic meal, or Ideal that is my favorite?
Classic= hotdog My new fav; Ivers clam strips, and clam chowder with a Manys Pale Ale (Safeco)
6. Would you rather be living in 1979, 1989, 1999, 2009?
’79 for the music, and catching the death throws of the muscle car era, yes I pretty much mean the movie Dazed and Confused would be an awesome life!
7. Are you looking forward to The Office wedding?
Yes, and no. If they’re married one of the fun aspects will be gone of the show, but perhaps that will allow for weird relationship tension for another character. So I’m calmly satiated.

My answers
1. What is your favorite Royals memory this season?
May 19th vs. Indians. Cliff Lee was dealing and Kerry Wood blows it with the Bloomquist sac fly that scored DeJesus. Probably the peak of the season and very fun game.
2. Favorite Royals story/development (non-Greinke) of 2009.
Brian Bannister kicking ass and taking names using information!
3. What is one crazy marketing/sales/promotion the Royals should try in 2010?
Somehow-Someway – have a contest for the ability to take B.P. If celebrities get away with it while the players are doing it, why not a fan? For charity maybe?
4. Rate the K as a date location.
A 6? I dunno…
5. What is you ideal ballpark meal.
None. But if I have to pay the sample platter at the Rivals Sports Bar – filling and delicious!
6. Would you rather be living in 1979, 1989, 1999, 2009?
I like living in the NOW!

I'll bite, while I take a break from a blog post
1. I was trying to pick a Greinke game for my favorite, but I will agree with Royal from Queens. That May 19 comeback game was so much fun. I went to it on a whim, by myself, and am very glad I did.
2. Definitely Billy Butler. I still don’t love him as a person but I drop whatever else I’m doing when he comes up to bat.
3. Who said Sabermetrics Night? Because I want that. CrownVision has a LOT of room for stats, win expectancy graphs, and even little explanations of what everything means. It could totally be done…but it probably won’t.
4. I would love a date at The K, but I’m biased. It’s probably better as a date spot if both people are over 21. On a warm day, standing under the fountains could provide a memorable moment of whimsy. Or something.
5. I’m poor, so I don’t eat at the ballpark very often. I generally do a Taco Bell run in St. Joe instead.
6. 2009 is pretty awesome. I like technology.
7. Yes! And I’m glad they’re not doing it as some overwrought season finale.

Obligatory answer title because I just don't want to say, "Here's mine"
1. Greinke, the May 4th Tigers shutout already mentioned by others. I don’t have cable or satellite or get the video package, so I see few games a year. I was watching Zack deal at Buffalo Wild Wings while eating wings and playing that national trivia game thing, which made that night essentially my version of Utopia.
2. How can it not be Butler? I also like to follow the minors side of things, so seeing Bianchi casting off his injury-laden past and seeing Montgomery and Duffy starting their journey to being Dayton’s Maddux and Glavine.
3. 1st 20,000 get an official powder-blue #8 spork.
4. We have to drive 2 1/2 hours each way, so we rarely go, and this year, we had the nephew along, so I can’t say what it would be like at the new K for just me and the missus. Plus, I’m a little too focused on the game to be on my best “date night” game.
5. I don’t know that I’ve ever had one. Tried the new Burnt End sandwich this year—it was quite good, but I’d never try to eat it at my seat. I’m typically a Hot Dog and Coke guy in the third inning with nachos after the 6th.
6. Now’s as good a time as any.
7. So far, this season’s a slow takeoff, as I don’t like the Jim as co-manager thing. At this point, it’s just another episode.

Oops
The May 4th shutout was against the White Sox. I was thinking of the Tigers game where they got a cheap run off of him early (the one that broke the scoreless inning streak), but he got better and better as the game went on.

Hmmm...
1. I have to say my favorite moment would be the Hochevar 82 pitch complete game (where I was one of like 5 people following the game thread)
2. I guess if it can’t be Greinke that only leaves Butlerbean
3. I wouldn’t mind seeing the all-you can eat seats come back
4. For me the K would be a great date location, mainly because if she doesn’t at least tolerate to enjoy baseball it wont work out anyway (could be a big reason why Im still single)
5. Hot dogs and Beer for me… Maybe some nachos
6. No sense in living in the past (especially since that would mean more losing ahead)
7. The Office is one of the few shows that I can’t miss, so I guess I am excited, but Im not sure how it will work out.

Except that you were limited in what was all you can eat
As in, no Sheboygans, no pretzels, etc. I did like bringing my own giant cup and filling it with soda. That alone made those seats worth it since I probably filled it 2-3 times at what used to be $6 a pop.

sure but...
you can trick out the hotdogs with Nacho sauce, Jalapenos, and Sour Kraut….you know to keep it healthy.
Plus scarf down six of those and you’ve more than paid for the seats!!! YEAH!!

I have trouble finding GUYS who like baseball enough. I can’t imagine how hard it must be to find a GIRL who is a big enough fan.

Yeah...
Im actually pretty intolerable among my baseball fan friends… Went to my high school reunion a couple weeks back, and one of the very first things said to me was… “Dude can you tone down the Royals love?”

I have trouble finding GUYS who like baseball enough. I can’t imagine how hard it must be to find a GIRL who is a big enough fan.
I was thinking that it wouldn’t be hard to find a good man that loves baseball, but honestly, I think most guys are bigger football fans due to the nature of fantasy football. I won’t watch a meaningless baseball game between two teams I don’t care about, but put my fantasy football players on the field, and I’m watching Lions-Redskins for the next 3 hours.
Also, I’m very lucky that I’ve turned my wife into a pretty big Royals fan, she even listens to me when I rant about the team, and she loves going to games. I expect to turn my daughters into fans too, so there’ll be a couple lucky guys out there someday.

My problem is that
dudes SAY they like baseball and, hey, maybe they do like to watch or attend the occasional game. But, in general, they can’t name 10 players on any team, even their “favorite” team, and know NOTHING about prospects, etc.
And I’d be a happy woman if I could find a fellow whose eyes didn’t glaze over if I brought up a stat more advanced than your basic slash stats or RBI. But I think that’s way too much to ask, if experience is any teacher.
Sigh.
WTF, self?

There's somebody for everybody
I’d bet that I could name at least 10 players on every team (well, maybe not the Pirates). There has to be more guys out there that can do that. My wife at least listens when I bring up an advanced stat. She may not care, or get it, but at least it looks like she does (she doesn’t roll her eyes or stop listening).

To echo AxDxMx, "There's somebody for everybody"
I had resigned myself to being single when I met the guy who is now my husband. But after he taught me to play Strat-O-Matic and let me play with his 30+ years worth of complete set baseball cards, I realized he was worth sharing my season tickets with. And all that other marriage stuff.

Wow, 30+ years of complete sets and a love story. That’s one for Strat-O-Matic Review, if only it were still being published.
My first complete set is ‘71, but I stopped ordering them each year sometime in the ’90s. Not that long ago I bought another set along with the computer game to try it with my older son, but it didn’t have the effect on him that it had on me at about the same age, so we didn’t do much with it. (In fact we were both pretty busy with actual baseball at the time, in Little League.)
My brother-in-law has a similar Strat-O-Matic history, but unfortunately his wife and my wife don’t get along, and we rarely see each other. So the elaborate tournaments with teams spanning a quarter-century or more that we once talked about have never happened.
But good for you and your husband. That’s a nice story.

Word out on the street is
- might be coming back. I complained about missing out on that and was told it was being re-considered. We’ll see about that…

1. What is your favorite Royals memory this season?
ZG’s amazing season: The scoreless inning streak, the 1 hitter, the 15 K game
2. Favorite Royals story/development (non-Greinke) of 2009.
Billy Butler. Billy has gone absolutely crazy with his bat. He’s primed for a “breakout” season… (that’s what we always say so I’ll say it even though it was this year). Also I’ve enjoyed prospect watching on MiLB.com box scores.
3. What is one crazy marketing/sales/promotion the Royals should try in 2010?
If the season goes like this year’s where we have a no offense stretch like June/July, Paper Bag day. Give away paper bags with Royals logos so no one can tell I’m at the game cheering.
4. Rate the K as a date location.
A+. Hot date. Baseball. Great place to just sit and talk while you watch the action.
5. What is you ideal ballpark meal.
A real Philly cheesesteak. Not something that costs ten bucks and is the bare minimum. Something solid. Real steak. Real onions. Real green peppers.
6. Would you rather be living in 1979, 1989, 1999, 2009?
Current times.
7. Are you looking forward to The Office wedding?
No. I enjoyed the show more when it was just episodes with no real running theme but comedy and fun. For example, Dwight trying to take over the office in the Coup, Michael playing basketball, Ryan’s first sales call. Now it’s becoming a drama type series. I still watching, but it’s losing luster.

1. Sitting at the K through a steady rain and watching the Royals come back to beat the hated yankees
2. It turns out I was right, acquiring bad players gets you a bad team, maybe its bad enough for the FO to learn from.
3. The absolute greatest marketing promotion was the 12 Krispy Kremes when the Royals reached 12 hits…they should do that only use 12 times on base instead…
4. Nowhere I’d rather be
5. Beer Brat loaded with onions, mustard and sour kraut
6. 1979
7. Watched seasons 1-4 within about 6 months…got burned out…no.
We always did feel the same, We just saw it from a different point of view, Tangled up in blue.

Krispy Kreme promotion should be
If the team draws three walks or more, everyone gets a dozen donuts. Krispy Kreme would never have to give anything away!

1. I only got to attend one Royals game this season (at the Oakland Coliseum against the A’s in May), and it was an…interesting experience. I was wearing my Alex Gordon jersey and got multiple drunken shouts of, “Hey Gordon, you suck!/you’re a #@%#%!” But it was $1 hot dog night, which kind of made up for it. Yeah.
2. I’ll be like everyone else and say…Billy Butler. Don’t feel like rockin’ the boat there.
3. Free Beer Night. ’Nuff said. (But the powder blue #8 spork idea is brilliant.)
4. It depends on how into baseball my date would be. I’ve been on one date at the K and definitely wouldn’t mind another (albeit with a different person next time :) ).
5. I haven’t had the food at the K this year, but I would imagine either a burger or pulled pork sandwich and nachos with jalapenos, washed down with a Boulevard. Then a chocolate malt during the 7th inning stretch.
6. 2009. I wasn’t alive in 1979, I am too young to remember 1989, and I was in junior high in 1999. Ergh.
7. Kind of. Jim and Pam kind of drive me nuts now, which is sad, because before they became the second coming of Harry and Sally, they were my two favorite primary characters on the show. I’m hoping this season turns out better than last, but I’m starting to think that the series might have jumped the shark last year.

Listen Up, Fools
I’m fashionably late to the party.
1. The 1-hitter; close to perfection.
2. Callaspo’s great snag and over-the-shoulder flip for the force at 2B. It gave me hope he would make some spectacular plays to make up for the routine ones he blows. I fully expected Manatee to blow up, and he did.
3. Callaspo tank top night.
4. If a woman can’t sit through a ball game without complaining, I don’t want to be around her. I’ll do enough things with her I don’t really want to do. Good test.
5. I hardly ever eat anything I don’t cook; beer.
6. There are many good reasons for me to want to re-live any of those years, but I’ll take 2009 overall. 1989 is tempting, though. 1959 and 1969 had their moments, too.
7. Maybe someday I’ll watch this show.
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

Is this where the party is?
1. The day Guillen was put on the DL.
2. Maier first HR.
3. It is a powder blue spork for me. or the win a chance to be in the booth with Ryan and Denny.
4. The wife liked going to the games. So, I guess I was lucky. We took the entire tribe once and never, never again.
5. Anything as long as it is washed down by lots and lots of beer. I always get a pretzel and two beers in the 6th.
6. 2009…. fantasy sports… enough said. 1969 did have it moments… and 1949 was a good year for babies…
7. I will watch that show after I clip my gray nosehairs…
