Nothing out of the ordinary, but any Greinke interview is a good interview. From a couple days ago.

“I thought we were going to do a lot better this year, but we had a couple of injuries early on in the year and we didn’t really have people step up to take their places,” he said. “Most of the guys did what you’d kind of expect from them. No one really did more than expected and a couple of people got hurt. No one stepped up like the Angels and the Twins when they had injuries, people came in and filled the spots real good for them. It didn’t work out for us early in the year and the middle of the year.”

Seems like he is harder on the team than his own GM and manager.

He unknowingly touched on the crux of the problem

Setting aside whether there was enough talent on hand to begin with (there wasn’t – but there might have been enough to come close to .500, which might have had us sorta in the race for part of the year),

Zack rightfully points out that the replacements for injured players were inadequate, whereas they were adequate for the Twins and Angels. That speaks to the woeful lack of organizational depth. He didn’t phrase it that way, but that is essentially what he is saying.

Mr Glass, this is a pro sports team, not a retail store - run it like one!

A .500 team most definitely would have competed

The Twins were essentially that .500 team that had a run to end the season.

One of two cruxes, actually

More astutely, he also acknowledged that “No one really did more than expected.” That’s even a bigger problem than the lack of depth to fill roles for the injured—the uninjured dreck that GMDM filled the roster with performed exactly as expected. Apparently Zack can understand a projection sheet better than the front office:

“I’m just a Royals GM. I don’t understand your frightening advanced metrics.”

If you look closely, it really says "CentralChamps2012."

I am on board

Simply for his “free guacamole at Chipotle” platform.

I didn't even know about that

I’m considering volunteering for his campaign efforts now!
