Winter Leagues Update... Royals

We can all breathe a sigh of relief because Washington's number 1 pick in the draft is human. Strass pitched a terrible game giving up his first two homers this fall in one inning. Now we will see just how well he can come back and compete after a disasterous start. Wood pitched 4 innings of shutout ball tonight and Sisk followed that up with another scoreless inning in relief. Sisk and Hartsock shouldn't spend too much time in Omaha with the shape of our bullpen. Keep an eye on the Rangers rookie Moreland. He looks to be as good as Smoak if not better. Remember Smoak is the player we passed up to take Hosey (with glasses).

What's up with

Carlos Rivas? 3 different teams? Where did he play last year? Also I thought we released Matt Tupman?

Rivas pitched in Wilmington

He was a (surprise) former Brave prospect acquired as a MiLB free agent this year. Had a pretty good 20 innings (1.74 ERA, 8.3 K/9) in relief. As a 24 year old Latin American signee, however, he was quite old for the level. He has been retained for 2010 (along with other former Braves Scott Thorman and Kevin Villa). He’s essentially roster filler for the minor leagues.

We did let Tupman go. He’s in the Diamondbacks organization now.

If you look closely, it really says "CentralChamps2012."

Lough

It appears that Lough has been replaced on the Surprise Rafters roster by former 50th round pick and Joey Garthright impersonator Jarrod Dyson. I have not been able to find the reason for the roster swapping.

Glad to see Nicoll is pitching in the winter league

He is the type of guy who could become a contributor in 2010 in a bullpen role. The experience in winter league will be valuable to him. Same feelings with Hartsock, Wood, Sisk and Swaggerty although the AFL isn’t like pitching in foreign environment. KC needs a couple of those young guys to take another step forward and make a difference in KC next summer.
