World Series Poll
I don't remember seeing anything like this on RR, so here goes. Please vote on your feelings for the World Series. I don't think anyone could describe it as being compelling here in the Midwest, but I am interested in people's perspectives. Do they root for a team because of love or hate? Are they interested in this Series since it involves to East Coast teams who won't even cross overhead here in the Midwest? Am I at 75 words yet? Apparently not. Here goes:

I probably wouldn't hate the Yankees so much
if I didn’t constantly hear how wonderful they were from the announcers.

More ex-Royals on the Phillies
I have a soft spot for Durbin after Muser ruined his arm and Matt Stairs is a role model for us over-weight white guys. Ibanez also signed and threw me a ball during ST one time.

The Phillies seem like a solid team
without too many a-holes. The glorification of the Yankees by the mediocre announcers and their myopic fans makes them impossible for me to objectively watch them. Looks like most people agree, since the Yankee hating vote is running away with it.

Aside from Victorino...
I pretty much like everyone on that team. That guy just seems like a tool.

I like the way the Phillies have built their team
largely through the draft…I don’t like the Yankees, not because they are the Yankees (well, yes, that as well) but because they’re largely just a collection of high-priced free agents. The Yankees of the mid-90s were at least somewhat tolerable b/c many of their key guys were home-grown, but they’ve reverted back to being the Evil Empire.
I suppose it’s just part of the natural ebb and flow, continuing to add more and more “last piece” types to maximize the core you’ve built, but it’s different with the Yankees…the amount of $$$ they’ve wasted on bad contracts is just obscene, and they can just shake it off and keep doing it.

I agree whole heartedly...
And every year I root for the American League, that is unless the Yankees are in it. Im not sure what I would do if it were the Cards vs Yankees.

I vote for Phillies because I used to live there and because I still love Ibanez.
But it’s true that I would root for whoever was playing against the Yankees.
Phillies new stadium looks way more comfortable than the Vet, which is where I had to watch them. I felt like I was going to prison every game – a feeling that was only intensified by the behavior of the other fans.
I also liked how last night after his 2nd home run Jason Werth turned to his own dugout with a look that seemed to say, “See how easy that is? Can a couple of you PLEASE step up for f***’s sake.”

A kid trick or treated (sorry),
Dressed as A-Rod. I seriously considered giving him no candy before chalking it up to bad parenting.

Yeah, I'd hate for my kid to grow up and be ARod.
Especially all those millions of dollars, that’s the worst part.

Do you think A-rod shares his loot?
I don’t.

A-Rod
First of all, let me preface this by saying I am not an A-Rod fan (although I acknowledge he likely will be one of the top 5 or 10 players of all-time when his career is over).
Those of you who know me will also know that, besides the Cards, the Yankees are my most hated team.
That being said, IF the Yankees are gonna win this year, then I’d just as soon A-Rod be the hero, like he has been so far. Why? Well, I sorta want him to stick it to all the IDIOTIC Yankee fans who insist he is not a true Yankee until he wins, etc. Also, stick it to the media, who CONSTANTLY talk about his prior post season struggles as if they are THE BE ALL TO END ALL of any analysis of him as a ballplayer. (I’m sure, after the Yankees finish this off, those same idiots will go in the opposite direction and OVER praise him for this offseason).
Doesn’t ANYBODY have any perspective? Can’t a seemingly intelligent baseball announcer understand the concept of small sample size? I guess I can understand a fan base that doesn’t get that, because perhaps they are too emotionally vested, etc. (Plus they are New Yorkers, so extra cynicism sure doesn’t help lend perspective either).
My point is, A-Rod is an alltime GREAT ballplayer, REGARDLESS of how he fares in the post season. Why? Well, let’s just say over 2,000 games of greatness OVERSHADOWS anything he has done to date in the postseason, good or bad.
Just my opinion. Still rooting for a miraculous Phillies comeback.

ever since he hosted Saturday Night Live
I have felt much warmer towards him. I thought he was genuinely funny in some of those skits and not afraid to make fun of himself.

What really pissed me off about the Yankees
Is that when they beat the Angels to go to the World Series, there was NO EXCITEMENT in the celebration. No sense of joy. No sense of accomplishment. No Dog Pile. Nothing. It was the biggest Joy-Kill ever.
It’s a bunch of guys that are so overburdonned with expectation from a shitty (albeit HUGE) fanbase, that puts nothing into the player, it’s all about the uniform that they don’t play with Joy at all. If they win the series, I’ll watch with great reverence to see how they react to accomplishing the greatest Team Feat in Baseball. Will it be with Joy, or a sense of Relief?
BOOM! ROASTED!
