Game 162 Overflow Thread
I hate this team, I hate the Twins. Not a fun weekend.
If Joe Mauer gets 40 more hits today, he'll finish at .400 for season. Mauer Pauer!

Okay, one more request
If you look closely, it really says "CentralChamps2012."

I guess that should have been...
Loosely moral victories

Yabuta
good to see us trying to stop the Twins
Graduate with a B.S. from the Dayton Moore School of Stats Analysis
The fact that Yabuta allowed a run in less than one inning pitched and his ERA has gone down..
is unbelievable
Desperately hoping for Desperate Measures
It's full of former Royally goodness
And low in run provention
Amen
I’ve always thought it was really stupid
What's the over/under on "Remembering {insert name here}" posts this winter?
Buck? Olivo? DDJ? Teahen?
Yabuta?
I'll take the under.
I really have this fear that the 2010 roster will be nearly identical to this crapfest.
WTF, self?
Hey, you can't make a guess
Since you write them and all
just another dumb stat decision by someone who says he doesn't use stats
what does it matter anymore… Tug was never going to get a shot with this team
with 4 ticks left
Winning the state title, though fortunately for the Bengals OSU isn’t on the schedule
Hernandez's walk
followed by Bloomer’s failure to hit into a DP ensures that Callaspo gets another PA. And the team BA title goes down to the last inning.
Jakers Can K
In 2 pitches!

I really thought he could make a run at .250
But, instead, he ends the season at .265… 2 points above his career average of .263.
Career year!
He Had A
.666 OPS on 9-28.

DiNardo's warming up
As we turn our attention from the battle for highest team BA to the highest team ERA.
He'd have a shot
if we could give him an inning or two, but sadly no. Just had shoulder surgery in August.
So, Tug comes in
Some sick part of me says they are trying to protect Callaspo’s average to make him look good and Butler worse.
But that’s just silly and I’m sure that’s not going on. It’s just that I even think it could be…
Butler stays over .300 and ahead of Callaspo
even if he makes an out.
i don’t think there’s any thought behind the move to bring Tug in for Callaspo — just another Treymove.
OK, Denny just said what he thinksw we need to do better in 2010
Better defense in the infield, especially around second base, and better situational hitting.
Callaspo burn.
nothing like turfing one of your better hitters
to make the team better in 2009
fucking cro-magnons think that they can win with an average defense and league-worst offense

Not saying anything against Alberto Callaspo
but with Callaspo as the starting second baseman, we finished last.
-Denny
With Zack Greinke having the best year since Pedro's best ever
We also finished last
with Zack Greinke starting, we finished last
doesn’t justify dumping Greinke though

ahhh...denny taking cues from Treyton about attacking our only overall good players for their deficiencies...
and completely ignoring those players who are nothing but deficient

I'm ok with Callaspo because of his bat
But that’s like saying “TPJ is awful so trading for Yuni is an upgrade”
We Are Working
On a whole team of decent hitters with no position.
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

Right now we have a team of utility players with no good position and poor hitters
Your suggestion is an upgrade, sort of
It's something to do while watching MST3K
Of course ;)

so
Trey has Hughes pitch to Mauer and Kubel today in a lost game, then he pulls Hughes after Kubel
in the game that matters, Hughes pitched to Cuddyer

In my FanFest feedback survey last January...
…I suggested they have a workshop where they host a stat lesson, so that newbs like me could learn better about what some of these advanced stats are and how to use them.
So am I stupid or just naive to think it conceivable the Royals organization would do this?
i think the fans should have a workshop where they host a stat lesson to teach our GM..
what some of these advanced stats are and how to use them

by billybeingbilly on Oct 4, 2009 5:17 PM EDT up reply actions
they would never do it
but it is a good idea
most of the advanced stats aren’t that complicated as concepts
if you think about it, a “basic” stat like ERA is actually fairly complicated
They aren't, but it's been hard for me to find a good explanation of them for someone coming to them for the first time.
I’ve asked my husband to explain, but I find he’s not a very good teacher for me as he goes to the details before the big picture, and I need to know the big picture first (i.e. why you’d want to know that) before I get the math on how it’s figured.
But I do feel much smarter about it all at the end of this season than I did at the beginning.
should have said "WAS I stupid" instead of "AM I"
as I realize now like I didn’t last January that this will never happen.
Still would like to see it, though.
Well, that game was a perfect encapsulation of the whole season.
It just felt like it would never…fucking…ennnnnnnnnd.

can we put Luke in the bullpen to start 2010?

So, uh, what does our starting rotation look like next season
Ok, Greinke, Meche (if not hurt), Banny (if not hurt)…?
Silva Time!

For him now.

by philofthenorth on Oct 4, 2009 5:29 PM EDT up reply actions
Greinke, Meche, Banny (maybe), Tejeda (for a bit), and it’s time to unload someone like DeJesus or Teahen for a young starter
Graduate with a B.S. from the Dayton Moore School of Stats Analysis
Davies could be in the rotation
I don’t think he should be.
But Davies and Hoch, if they’re not one of the 5 best starters, almost have to be in the bullpen
Unless DM trades Hochevar, before Luke turns into the next JP Howell

But I’m glad the season’s over. I can’t remember a more joyless one.

2004 kindof was, but after the first month we knew it was going to be bloody
No false hope or anything and no complete loss of faith in the front office (yet)
2001?
2001: Royals come off of a successful year, win 65 games, have a dreary uninspiring manager, trade for a shitty shortstop mid-season
