Hillman: Injuries no excuse for dismal season
Wait. Sorry. I got that wrong in the title.. This is what he said:
"I've made mention of this many times throughout the course of this injury-plagued season that we've had: I'm much more impressed with where we're at mentally, work ethic-wise and attitude-wise with this club in comparison to what we had last year," Hillman said. "I think that has grown, I think the character has grown. Right, wrong and indifferent, I think that's something that leads to more wins."

huh?
“I think that (mental ability?) has grown, I think the character (mental character as a whole?) has grown. Right, wrong and indifferent (… no idea), I think that’s something that leads to more wins.”
Managers have to play with the cards dealt them… so saying he had the proper cards to win is damning of himself (b/c he didn’t, in fact, win) and saying he didn’t have the proper cards is damning of his boss, GMDM. So what does he say? Pretty much gibberish.
Reporter, “What’s your evaluation of this season?”
Trey’s Mental Process: "Answer the questions. But don’t say anything. Don’t say anything, but also don’t use “maybe”, “ideally”, “possibly”, “um” or “uh”. Also, don’t incriminate myself or my boss. Also don’t point to anything measurable that can be proven wrong later."
I think the above quote was about his only possibility… there was nothing else he could have said.

He could have said,
“I’m disappointed in where we finished,” and that would have at least had a chance of seeming honest, whereas (as they used to say back home) the hash he slung couldn’t pass for victuals even to a pig.

I'll rec anything that uses the word "victuals"

Injuries
I think we can all look at the Royals and conclude that if healthy, they would have competed for the pennant. They weren’t as lucky as the Twins who didn’t have any injuries to key players like Justin Morneau, Joe Mauer, Francisco Liriano, Glen Perkins, Kevin Slowey, Jesse Crain or Nick Punto.

Not sure if anyone posted this recent Trey beauty, courtesy of Ken Davidoff's blog (newsday.com)
Davidoff: And here’s a comment that Hillman told to me this past week, during Kansas City’s visit to Yankee Stadium, about the Royals’ development and their difficulty in getting people to believe in that development:
"It’s challenging because most of the time, our local media and even our fan base, they don’t want to hear about the process. They don’t want to be educated on the process. But it is a process. …People don’t want to take the time to learn, because we’re not bred that way, culturally. It was an easier sell in the other culture, in Japan (Hillman managed the Nippon Ham Fighters from 2003 through 2007), because they’re very used to processes. And they don’t care how long it takes, as long as you get it set to last."

It’s either astonishingly deluded or astonishingly simple. He manages a team that has one winning season in the last 15 and no playoff appearances in the last 24. So if all of us actually had cultural impatience bred into us, there would be no Kansas City Royals fans — not a single one — and nobody would be available to be educated on whatever the process is that they can’t even be bothered to specify beyond vague references to “getting everybody together” and “working hard”.
I now have big problems with this guy, if that wasn’t already clear. I don’t want the Royals to terrible again next year, but I also don’t want Trey Hillman anywhere close to something I care about any longer than necessary.

Trey is a douchebag
“they don’t want to hear about the process”
How about you tell us what the process is!? I would love to be educated about it.

This is so outrageously wrongheaded
that it deserves its own Fanshot. Everyone should know just how unworthy Hillman thinks we are of the Royals’ organization and their secret genius process. I found the source at newsday.com, so I’ll post it.
Trey and Dayton
I’m getting sick and tired of hearing that injuries are no excuse YET, every overview on the 2009 seaosn from either of these men begin with the qualifier and the forced mention that is was “injury plagued” like… shut up already.
Stop saying there are no excuses and then have a qualifier for every single sentence.
I had higher hopes for the team as well but that better not be an excuse to keep guys like Yu-Bet and Jacobs who were healthy!

I don't understand....
you would not want indifference to expand, but that might explain the defence I suppose.
Hey, Willie why’d you miss that ? Oh yeah, he’s indifferent and it’s growing! Go Process.
