Ryan Shealy: Where is he now?
Note - Shealy was kind enough to suffer through a 3-day long game of phone tag to talk to me, just because I asked. He really is good people. Also, sorry about the wonky formatting on the post.
-------------------------
"[The Royals] did what they felt was necessary, what they felt was going to help them win," Shealy said. "With that said, I know that, if I was given the opportunity, that I could produce at that level, too. [Moore] did whatever he thought was best for the team, which he should do, but in my heart I know that if given the chance I could perform."

I had a meeting with a guy for work
And the whole time I was just thinking “man, this guy looks JUST like Ryan Shealy.” I am still not convinced it wasn’t him.
Relive Royals History at royalsretro.blogspot.com
my mother works with his dad
at a high school in Deerfield Beach. They’re good people.
Wait. Sarah Palin's in Hong Kong? But who's watching Russia?
He has told me
about his dad.
That’s something that strikes me about Shealy – he’s not just a good guy compared to other ballplayers (It doesn’t take much to look saintly compared to most of those guys). He actually seems like a good guy, overall. It’s refreshing.
WTF, self?
and by
“about his dad” I mean “that his dad is a big reason Ryan can handle the crap the Royals/injries have given him with grace.”
WTF, self?
I never really thought
he got a good look after getting hurt the 1st time. I’ve always been high on him. I sincerely wish that it didn’t turn out the way it did – and I’m not just saying that as a Royals fan, I’m saying that as a Shealy fan.
Wait. Sarah Palin's in Hong Kong? But who's watching Russia?
Sorry, Ryan, the Royals obviously had much, much more qualified 1B/Dh candidates ahead of you

can't wait for Dayton to spend $5M looking for a right-handed platoon partner
after busting out a 3/36 special for Russ Branyan
Remember: get them after they’ve “proven” how valuable they are!

I really thought he would get a (well-deserved) chance after last September
But then Jacobs was brought in and… sigh. I have a feeling he’s going to be one of those guys who hits the majors at 31 or 32 as an injury fill in, surprises people with a decent year or two, and then falls off the face of the earth. It’s kindof a shame as I think he could have been a useful player for KC.
that's the thing
other than the fact that he seems like a nice guy, I don’t think he’s very good at all. But given the situation in KC, his paycheck and skills relative to others, who KC brought in… it’s a real shame.
I love the trend of trading useful players for guys, then the guy ends up being realeased for nothing (Cf. Gathright, Joey, likely Jacobs, Mike).

Well, yeah
He’s not going to be some All Star but for a team looking for average major league players, you could do a lot worse considering his contract
"Average player" is Shealy's upside
he might be a decent platoon bat/NL guy

But that still has value
at the Major League level. And he has, as you’ve surely noticed, not been at that level. For his sake, I hope the Royals never talk to him again. He has suffered at their hands enough.
WTF, self?
oh, I agree
even if he was a jerk, the Royals wasted his time (and, frankly, their own).
Good luck to him.

What is he going to do now?
Try to catch on with another team or retreat back into the real world of 9-5. I can’t say he was a favorite of mine but I know that he could have done a better job this year then Jacobs and for a lot less money. A few others that could have outdone Jackalop would be Kia and even Lubanski at first. If he is going back to play baseball I hope he catches on with a team that needs a cheap 1B/DH type to fill out their roster. Cleveland comes to mind or Toronto. Good luck, Ryan…. good job Minda….
By the way we need a femine touch to our Fantasy baseball league… Are you interested?
The goal is definitely
to catch on with a new team. That’s why he’ll play in Mexico this winter, which, if I’m not mistaken, is a first for him.
He did graduate from college, so I’m sure there’s some kind of 9-5 kind of job for him somewhere if it comes to that. I just hope that’s not this year.
WTF, self?
Can he work an abacus?
Maybe he’’l become Head of Number-Stuff at Kauffman.
