Billy Butler named AL Player of the Month
But Greinke gets the shaft despite a 0.55 ERA because he doesn't know "how to win."

Good for Billy
maybe a sign for the Cy Young for Zack
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.

Congrats to Billy
He had a great finish to a fine overall year. I wouldn’t be suprised if he received a couple of random, low position votes in the MVP balloting.
The announcement on the official site also notes:
When Butler notched his 50th double of the season on Sept. 26, he became just the fifth player in Major League history to compile at least 20 home runs — he finished with 21 homers — and 50 doubles in a season before age 24.
Looking deeper and adding a plus .300 batting average, this (50+ doubles/20+ HR/.300+ BA) has only been done 36 times by 30 different players. Other interesting facts on this accomplishment:
-It was only done twice between 1941-1985 (Musial in ‘53 and F. Robinson in ’62)
-This has been done 27 times from 1986 -2009
-It was done 10 times from 2000-2002 (the height of the “Steroid Era”?)
-Todd Helton has done this twice (2000 and 2001) and just missed another 2 times (1 double short in both 2003 and 2004)
-Only 5 of these players won the MVP that year (if I counted correctly)
-Barry Bonds never did this, but Pujols (twice) and A-Rod have
-Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth never did this either
-Nomar Garciaparra and Edgar Martinez have both done it twice
-An “Honorable Mention” goes to Hugh Duffy. In 1894(!), he was 2 HRs short. I mention this because his 18HRs led the league that year……Oh, and he hit .440!
-When Hal McRae had his 54 double season (’77), he also hit 21 HRs, but he only hit .298!
So there you go!

so you're saying that Billy is definitely on steroids, right?
I'm not a sabermetrician, but I do play one at Driveline Mechanics.

Of course...
Not. And I know that you were just “injecting” a little snark into this post!
There are a couple of semi-questionable names on this list though. Jose Vidro?

Billy was unaware that you still have to work your ass off in the weight room
He thought the muscles magically appeared.

Or 2 homers better than guys in 1894!

How many homers would Billy have if Kauffman had no fences?
I think about 15-20 of those doubles would be triples and homers despite how slow Billy is. Some of those rockets would have rolled forever.

Well Done Billy!
So that’s two monthly awards won by Royals this season. When was the last time that happened?
