Royals Review Community Prospect List: #2
Mike Montgomery comfortably gets the call as the Royals Top Prospect on our poll. He beat out Mike Moustakas and Aaron Crow. So now the fight for #2 begins. As before, the choices are listed alphabetically and you can make your case in the comment section. I've added a couple of names that were listed in the comment section of the last poll.
#1--Mike Montgomery--LHP

I voted Crow over Myers
Simply because he’s closer. Myers certainly has time to have a Moose/Hosmer type career dip.

I voted for Crow
he had that strong finish to the AFL season after shaking off some rust. I think he’s close and currently better than Mous and Hos.

I took Moose over Crow right now.
I need to see at least one season from Crow to put him that high.

I changed my vote from Moose Tacos to Bianchi
because we need Bianchi to be successful faster than the Moose. Probably not the right definition of the #2 prospect, but maybe if I will it strong enough, it will be so.

Excellent Reasoning. I
Voted the same way for almost identical reasons. The next great SS in KC will be the first.

i voted for crow, not that i like it
i wish i was voting for someone with a great track record and upside, duffy would qualify, but i don’t like duffy’s upside nearly as much as any of the other prospects on the first poll.

Maybe we should have a poll on what do you use to measure a prospect.
1. Highest upside
2. Ability right now to contribute to the ML, even in the pen or bench
3. Who would you not like lose.

in my mind its 3....
or ‘with a gun to your head, who would you rather dayton moore send away for the next Yuni?’ That person goes lower on the list.

I went with Crow
Because he is closest and can be a very nice rotation piece.
Moose has had 2 average seasons in a row, his main flaw is persisting in the AFL, his glove won’t hold at the position he is currently at. He still has big-time upside, but that doesn’t outweigh the actual performance enough for me to put him in at #2.

My reasoning exactly
for choosing Crow.

Kyle2099 (Kansas City): KG, Anxiously awaiting the Royals list. Did Hosmer and Moustakas fall considerably this year in your (and scouts) eyes?
Kevin Goldstein: Hosmer more than Moose. Moose had the horrible park, and he looked much better defensively at third base this year.

Fair enough
But better than what? That’s a relative statement without anything to base it off. Better than awful? Better than average?
And other’s disagree. Law doesn’t like him at 3B. Sickels was negative last week. We could trade quotes all day. It is at least questionable whether he sticks at 3B.

Trust the process
after all, this is the same organization that thought Butler could stick at 3B, then thought he had enough range to play LF in a large home park

Let's try again
Trust the process.
after all, this is the same organization that thought Butler could stick at 3B, then thought he had sufficient range to play LF in our cavernous home park. They clearly understand defense.

I give up with the sarc font
What I was trying to post was alluding to how the org thought Butler could stick at 3B, then thought could handle LF at the K – so if they say Moose can play 3B, who are we to doubt them?

Hell, I'd Be
Glad to see im in LF if he can hit MLB pitching, DDJ will be gone then, of course, and we’d better get some good prospects for him.

I went with Duffy (again)
though I would also put Myers at this spot
by marbotty on Nov 19, 2009 1:14 AM EST reply actions 0 recs
I had to go with Myers
I think that if he sticks at C, then hes got the highest upside of anyone. Crow hasn’t shown enough and Moose didn’t seem to show any real improvement.
right now I’d be something like:
1. Montgomery
2.Myers
3. Moose
4. Crow
5. Bianchi
6. Melville
7.Duffy
8.Hoz

And this is the thing with prospects
- last year, #8 this year. The life of a prospect.

I didn't have him #1 last year...
I’m always leery of putting untested highschoolers so high.
Not to mention so much can happen between Rookie ball and the Show that theres no reason to rank any high school pick much higher than 3-4.

I don't see how, hes a shortstop...
With some power, whose moved fairly quickly through the system(about a level a year), could be in KC by mid-2011 and has improved steadily ever year, even after going up levels.
He might not have the upside of Moose or Hoz, but hes closer and much more of a sure thing right now.

he is a decent prospect
do not get me wrong. he’s a solid defender who can hit a little. but i’m not convinced at all that he’s going to hit for much average, nor walk a ton. he really, really struggles against breaking pitches right now. i compared him to Clint Barmes at one point and Jack Wilson with a bit less defense another.
i just don’t think he’s anywhere near the #2 prospect in our system. i’d need to look at my spreadsheet, but I think I have him at #12. and that’s not really a bad thing, our top 10 is very good.

I went with Duffy again....
and the majority went with Mous… I can’t see him as our #2. This year he was mediocre at best and he still doesn’t have a solid position in the bigs. Yes, he could be an OF, 3B, or … I just can’t see this pick.
