Fixing the kansas city royals

2008101458_medium

via seattletimes.nwsource.com

Fixing this team takes allot, considering are market system. Right now I am on the Dayton Moore bandwagon but not Trey Hillmans. To fix this team is first through free agency, are free agents are Miguel Olivo,Jamey Wright,Bruce Chen,Coco Crisp. The only one I would keep would be Coco because before his injury he gave this team a huge spark with his speed, quickness and glove. next is Cuts Willie Bloomquist and Josh Anderson these kids are not getting it done and that's all that it comes down too. know we have openings at pitching and catching. Free agents to replace these guys, would have to be a cheap veteran like Ivan Rodriquez who would be a nice cheap pickup and would compete with John Buck for backup catcher. Next is we need to relievers so I say we call up Carlos Rosa and give Arron Crow another year to develop, and then sign a guy like Rafael Beatencourt or LaTroy Hawkins to a one year deal. And maybe one or 2 outfielders for depth im thinking Garrett Anderson or anybody else.

Then are lineup looks like this

C Bryan Pena

1st base Billy Butler

2nd base Chris Getz

DH Alberto Callaspo

SS Mike Aviles

3rd Base Alex Gordon

Right Outfield Jose Guillen/Garrett Anderson

Center Field Coco Crisp

Left Field David DeJesus

Then next is the pitching staff.

Closer Joakim Soria

Setup Kyle Fransworth

Relievers Juan Cruz,Carlos Rosa,Dusty Hughes,LaTroy Hawkins or Rafael Betancourt

Starting Pitchers Zach Grienke, Gil Meche, Robinson Tejeda, Brian Bannister, Luke Hochevar

I think this team could compete in the division.

With respect, I don't think that team sniffs .500

It’s going to take more major changes to get this team into contention (or more years to develop prospects).

Yeah I just threw up in mouth a little bit.

Im not sure that team is even any better than what we had last year.

A minor rearranging of the deck chairs on the Titanic.

I was gonna use that line...

but felt it would be plagiarizing other people here… Though i will admit that I didn’t see Aviles on the list, though I can’t imagine him wrestling the job from Bettancourt.

It's an old cliche that we are all plagiarizing

And that’s the best kind of plagiarism.

hahahaha

Farnsworth as the set-up guy. That’s a good one!

I used to work with an old man that told me. Son, every workplace has a dumbass, if you don't have one where you work, then I'm afraid you're it.

Yeah theres no way he sets up if Betancourt is a MR

Betancourt has been a terrific set up guy the past few years

i was sorta on board 'til you said Garrett Anderson

he’s really not that good.

relase Guillen and hell even put Mitch in RF. i could get with that. the defense would be awesome, and I think Mitch even had like a .360 OBP in the second half last year.

baseball rules.

eric hinske

Non-horrific defense in RF, decent hitter, could probably be had for $1M or less. Market Teahen w/ better bat and d., could probably be traded fir a live arm at the deadline, unless he carries KC to the World Series as he did his last three teams.

Rodriguez?

Are you kidding me?

By the way, doesn’t anyone realize Buck had a 103 OPS+ last year? He wasn’t horrible. I do think it’s probably time for him to go, just because everyone’s sick of him and that 103 is a major outlier in his career, but still…

I-Rod hasn’t had that good a season with the bat since before Dubya got re-elected.

And I've read he's regressed defensively quite a bit

this team would be dreadful

and IMO free-agency is NOT the way we need to go, unless it’s very minor pick-ups…need to wait out Guillen’s contract and then with some prospects coming up, spend some cash on areas of need for 2011.

There are a ton of guys on this roster

that I would cut before Bloomquist. Why the hate for him? It’s not his fault he started more than he should have last year. He’s very solid in a backup role. He is just fine as our utility guy IMO.

Yes, I'm still alive. Sorry to disappoint you.

by royaldaddy on Nov 22, 2009 1:38 AM EST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

ahead of who?

he’s worse than: Huglett, Getz, Fields, Maier, generic minor league contract outfielder x….

it’s not an issue of “fault,” it’s one of “suck”

Saying that he's worse than Tug or maier is a stretch.

I’m not saying he’s a world beater, but he’s a decent utility guy. Hillman just started him too much. It’s nice to have a guy around that can fill in acceptably at a number of different positions if needed. He shouldn’t be starting (minus the occasional off day for a regular). I just don’t get the hate for Willie.

Yes, I'm still alive. Sorry to disappoint you.

How is saying he's worse than Maier is a stretch?

He gets on base more often than Bloomquist and actually plays a decent outfield.

I used to work with an old man that told me. Son, every workplace has a dumbass, if you don't have one where you work, then I'm afraid you're it.

They're different guys

You can’t compare them. If you needed a SS for a couple of days and could only call on one of them, who would you call? Will.

If you needed a CF, wouldn’t you call Mitch instead?

by Dadunca on Nov 23, 2009 1:48 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

Exactly. But why keep Willie around when there are guys that play SS better than Willie, too?

I don't "hate" any player

but Willie sucks. The only position he could realistically play given his horrible hitting would be SS, if his defense was good there. But it’s absolutely horrible. There are tons of minor league guys like Tug Hullett who could be (at worst) as “good” as Bloomquist, and at much less money.

Willie’s maybe a 25th man on an NL squad. He has no upside, and doesn’t help any club out, really. He can’t hit well enough to start, and doesn’t play defense well enough anywhere to overcome that on any part-time basis.

Tug is at least as good on defense, can hit better, and is on a minor league deal. Maier can actually play center field, and so on.

How many trades could Dayton possibly pull off with Minaya?

seriously, why would anyone give up a B prospect for Willie Bloomquist? Or even a C? Even if the Royals ate the money? They can always sign Tug or Donnie Murphy or someone to a minor league deal.

Don't you know that every playoff bound team needs a Willie Boom Boom?

It’s a fact!

Ok, that may have been entirely too optimistic. We eat the contract and receive someone’s leftovers. A half eaten McDouble and 2 french fries?

by AxDxMx on Nov 22, 2009 11:34 PM EST up reply actions   0 recs

I believe much of the hate for Willie is actually hate for the deal Moore made. For the right amount of money, years, need, and usage Willie is useful.

Moore really didn’t need him, paid him too much for too many years, and used him way too much at positions he had no business playing.

by Steve Hovley on Nov 22, 2009 12:19 PM EST reply actions   0 recs

right amount of money/years

= minor league deal, year-to-year

I think it's more to do with Moore bragging about what a great signing it was.

Only through comparison of last year’s mishaps does Boom-boom’s deal look good.
