Retooling through the minors... I think Dayton should of done this last year instead of gambling...
but it’s okay.

This isn't retooling ...
it’s just filling out the roster in Omaha and adding guys who stand a chance of not being a total embarrassment should an emergency develop that can’t be filled using the 40-man roster.
To me retooling is adding players whom you can expect to be more than a spare part on a MLB roster. For almost all of these guys signed to minor league deals (especially if the deal does not include an invitation to major league camp), all you hope for is that they don’t increase your chances of losing a game if for some reason they are needed on the MLB club.

but this is scary
Rupe, 27, pitched four times out of the bullpen for the Texas Rangers last season, posting a 15.43 ERA and allowing 17 baserunners in just 4.2 IP.

Hey, we got a CF
…to push Josh Anderson for that AAA job.
I wonder if this means we are out of the Coco Crisp sweepstakes? Mitch Maier to start in CF?

Nah
Coats is just filler in Omaha. Maier will likely be a reserve OF in KC.

Coats is not a bad CF to stick in AAA for emergencies only
Rupe gets groundballs and . . . nothing else.

Dayton has simply signed him to make an example of him for the other players
He’ll be cut when he gets into a fight at a redneck bar.
