Royals Get Jason Kendall

Wake up SBNation and Royals fans.  We got a veteran catcher that knows all of the batters habits in the league and that will be a great mentor for our young catcher.  The Royals have made some good moves so far this year (except releasing Jacobs) and non tendered free agents come available tomorrow I think.  There are a lot of good deals out there and I think we will be getting our outfielder and bullpen help over the weekend.

Knowing habits is very important

just ask Olivo. Greinke would be nothing without OLIVO

I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.

They needed to release Jacobs

That was the best move they made this offseason. He was awful, is awful, and will always be awful.

Well, he knows all the ...

…batters in the NL. Despite that little disconnect, I’m still happy with the signing. I hope I don’t eat those words by September (or July, for that matter), but I do think he’ll be good for the team. And now, with Getz and Kendall here, and Olivo and Buck and Jacobs gone, we’ll have new things to complain about, at least, for 2010. – TL

BTW: I'd like to see...

…some defensive metrics on Kendall. How was he as a defensive backstop? I know what we’re getting offensively: singles and doubles hitter, slap-style, steals a base occasionally, etc.

Milwaukee’s no longer in the AL

Ralph Wiggum would be a better GM than Dayton Moore

You should have replied

I forgot that Milwaukee's an AL team

Yep I'm sure his time in Pittsburgh...

And Chicago and Oakland and Milwaukee will help him prepare us for guys like Evan Longoria….

I love that we are basically gitting rid of a catcher with a 104 OPS+(Buck) who might cost 7-8 million over 2 years for a guy with a 72 OPS+ who is likely to decline even further…

I just see this turning into Jason LaRue 2.0

I refuse to set up a signature....DAMMIT

Except a home run contest between Kendall and LaRue

would be like Shaq vs. Albert Pujols

I'm not a sabermetrician, but I do play one at FanGraphs.

I'll Take On

Shaq in the FT contest, but it’d be close. If I hit a HR in a MLB park now my rib cage would explode.

I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.

When I saw this signing, I actually thought

“what, was Jason Larue not available?”

Yes, I'm still alive. Sorry to disappoint you.
