The Royals sit, the fans talk about prospects

So...the Royals have the reigning Cy Young winner and the team makes the big splash and signs powerless oldie Jason Kendall to a multi year contract. Woot.

The Royals did manage to sign an import, however not much else has happened to improve this team for 2010. The Royals continue to flounder about like a fish on deck, waiting for the RIGHT move.

How frustrating this must be for Greinke and co.

As a fan of this team for more years than I care to mention, I am just about at my breaking point. I am tired of the small market talk. I am tired of hearing that the Royals can't attract a big name. I mean wow, the Royals signed Jose Guillen didn't they?!?!!

Dayton Moore needs to put his thinking cap on and come up with a way to improve this team now.

I guess Royals fans are happy and content reading about the progress or lack thereof...of the endless prospect machine that is the Royals franchise. I am for one am tired of it.

Shane Costa is back.....JACKPOT.

No, he does not have to improve this team NOW.

That’s what got us into this mess in the first place, when we could actually have been ready to compete NOW if he’d just kept his dick in his pants.

This team is not just one or two key moves away from challenging for the division. It just boggles my mind how nobody remembers 2004, when Baird went out and made an assload of moves that actually didn’t look bad on paper, and ended up mushroom-clouding in his face.

I'd still like to see him making some trades

Dealing off parts to build up our minor league depth to work for the long-term.

He's painted himself into a corner on trades though

Everyone expects a top-tier pitching prospect for the junk they are going to give us. Dayton’s been trading gold for fool’s gold and everyone knows it and wants in on the action.

That's what I was wondering....

I mean, if you get a kid to trade his Griffey rookie card for a Teahen and Bloomquist rookie card, why would you ever offer him a fair trade?

My brother still talks proudly of trading a 1990 Donruss Juan Gonzalez Reverse Negative Error and Rookie Card

for Mark McGwire’s 1984 (or 85, can’t remember) Olympic Rookie from a neighbor kid. At the high point of McGwire mania the difference in value was pretty much the same as your example above. Of course he made the trade around 1994 so he had to wait a while for the return. He was a huge McGwire/Canseco Bash Brothers fan.

Understand your frustration,

and while I agree with Retro in that they probably should be focused more on a total rebuild,

what I would also like to see reported on are the true finances of the Royals. Every story simply repeats the mantra that the Royals need to cut payroll, or at least keep payroll at 2009 level. Where are the articles talking about how much (if?) the team was profitable last year? Where are the articles detailing how much revenue was increased due to the taxpayer funded ballpark improvements last year? Where are the articles talking about how much revenue sharing will increase or decrease next year?

In other words, don’t just tell me you need to cut the budget – I want details as to WHY, so I can judge FOR MYSELF whether this notoriously skinflint owner can justify his business plan, or whether he is blowing smoke up our collective assholes (again).

Mr Glass, this is a pro sports team, not a retail store - run it like one!

What's wrong with you?

Why complain about the discussion on this site about prospects? At Royals Review, we talk about EVERYTHING having to do with the Royals. Do you have a problem with that? Do you think we should only bitch about how horrible the team is and how poor the GM is? We do that EVERY SINGLE DAY? Do you read this site, or just pop in to bitch about it?

I guess Royals fans are happy and content reading about the progress or lack thereof…of the endless prospect machine that is the Royals franchise. I am for one am tired of it.

What makes you think that Royals fans are happy and content about the state of the team? We complain about it all the time in ways both guttural and cerebral. Your frustration with the team makes sense. Your pissing and moaning about the fans and/or this site does not.

It should also be noted

There are lots of good teams that haven’t done anything this off-season. Lots of moves left to be made. The season doesn’t start for more than four months.

Can I place a "nay" vote

now?

Two

There is this one, the daughter of famous director Mike Nichols and an actress in Hollywood:

And this one, ESPN Reporter-girl:

And I totally did not get that from "Boobieblog.com"

I’m laughing my ass off seeing that on the bottom of the pic just now. Here’s the link I got from a Google Image Search:

is she also related to jason bay

I only knew about the ESPN one… never heard of the other

Well, she played one in Star Trek

She was green, and Capt. Kirk tried to hook up with her. So that’s more support for your alien theory.

Correction

She was Uhura’s roommate, and Kirk did hook up with her. He was getting dressed when Uhura barged in…

My friend and I have this same conversation every time she shows up on the screen

We liken it to that Seinfeld episode where Jerry dates a girl who is only hot in certain lighting. You can’t say definitively whether or not Rachel Nichols is hot in general. You can only say whether or not she is hot today.

I thought the 1,000ish comments surrounding Jason Kendall

pretty clearly showed we’re far from content.

@NYRoyal

I complain about the prospect talk because that’s all we ever get to talk about.

Now, I will say that Gordon and Butler could very well have great seasons in 2010.

A lot of people say Gordon is a bust, but two 30 double seasons is a pretty good start for a guy who has had some injuries and largely in a lineup without much protection.

If Gordon can bring his average up to say .290, with another 30+ doubles, that’s a really good year, and will likely increase the Royals run production.

My point is that Moore has to be creative, and I understand that the Royals are a small market. As a GM you are paid to build, develop and acquire players that you feel will help the team. Moore is making a lot of moves, but none of them, save maybe Kendall, has any bearing on the Royals in 2010.

Greinke is a great pitcher, and the Royals have some nice talent now, I just can’t understand why the team can’t make a move or two, to become deeper and more competitive.

I would be working tirelessly to find moves to make the Royals a winner, sooner rather than later.

The Royals don’t need to flesh out a bunch of young players to acquire a talented player…there are a lot of clubs with players with contract situations that the Royals could swoop in on……but they just don’t.

As for the Royals fans.

I am one, but the one thing about this site that bothers me is that there is no hope…so I guess we should just suck it up and hope for the best…as we do every April.

We have hope for the future and hope that we are wrong on DM

but our hope really starts in 2012, and with another terrible season in 2010 and no growth, that will likely be pushed back at least 1 more year, if not altogether until DM is gone.

by AxDxMx on Dec 17, 2009 3:34 PM EST up reply actions

This organization needs a lot of work and a lot of change, from the top down and pretty much everywhere. We are agreed there (in principle). But I disagree about your complaints about the fans. On the internet, we talk about all things Royal, period. This includes prospects the manager, the GMand every player on the 25-man roster. As far as hope goes, there’s no reason for hope in the short-term. But, generally speaking, the Royals fanbase has pessimists, optimists and realists. I think everyone has hope for the long-term future. Anything could happen. But in the short-term, there is a poor front office which follows a fatally flawed process. The front office is the engine of the organization, and this engine threw a rod years ago.

Re: The Nature of Royals Fans' Hope...

(or at least mine).

I love the Royals, but I don’t have much hope for a good season this year.

Having said that, at the beginning of each of the 162 games, I have hope that we’ll win today.

I complain about the prospect talk because that’s all we ever get to talk about.

By that logic, if we won every game and the entire roster was made of awesome, you’d complain about us talking about how happy we all are.

I don't agree with change for the sake of change.

Just like I believe that not using statistics at all for decision making is better than using statistics incorrectly for decision making. I don’t think we should be clamoring for movement, because there is a big difference between movement and progress.
