Non-tender Jacobs and Buck. Pray we can get Guillen, Cruz, and Farnsworth to have big showings in their contract years, otherwise that will be 20 million wasted like it was last year.

I don't like the idea of trading anyone, except Callaspo. Get a new starting CF or C for Callaspo and address the other spot via free agency. Dejesus is the only other player we could get anything for but I'd rather keep him around to try to make a run for the division title in 2011.

The problem with chucking Callaspo for a catcher or a CFer

is that we’ll likely get hosed on the return.

Dayton’s new 1 year plan is likely to regress this team even further. Next year he’ll be able to go wild in free agency and sign his dream players from this years Mariners and Braves squads.

Don't trade Callaspo

He’s about our fifth-best player, and we wouldn’t get back what he’s worth. It’s hard to find an adequate second baseman who can get on base and hit doubles. He could actually be a player on a contending team, and we don’t have many of those.

As for CF, I’d re-sign Crisp to an incentive-laden contract. Catcher? I dunno, stay with Buck and Peña, I suppose.

SS looks like the biggest hole to me, unless Avilés is able to recover his form from two seasons ago. Betancourt is not adequate at all. Pick up some slick fielder who can’t hit a lick, which is better than a lousy fielder who can’t hit a lick, which is what Betancourt is.

It's pronounced Poo-ZHOLS in Catalan.

I would generally agree

We shouldn’t trade Callaspo for the sake of trading him. He is affordable, productive, and as Bam Bam’s defense at first continues to improve (which I think it can, at least some), Bert’s poor defense can be mitigated at least a little.

I would be willing to give Aviles a chance to prove that 2009 was an injury-ridden fluke. Ergo, the Royals will not be willing to give Aviles that chance.

The depressing thing about the Aviles situation

is that, apparently, SS is the only position where the Royals seem to think they’re set.

I'm not a sabermetrician, but I do play one at FanGraphs.

When I said "can't hit a lick"

I was thinking of somebody with a 600 OPS. TPJ has a minus 74 OPS.

It's pronounced Poo-ZHOLS in Catalan.
