The Bravest Way to Sign, Not Sign, Ken Griffey Jr.
What the hell is going on with the signing, non-signing of Griffey? My tendency is to blame the player for sending mixed messages, but the Braves have a track record of being well, fairly weird and crazy with these things as well. In two days Griffey will either be a Brave or we'll probably be reading about how his agent is the devil and that the Braves just won't deal with him anymore. How snubbing of them. Huzza!
Then there's this, from Lookout Landing,
As it turns out, the Atlanta Braves are run by crazy persons. For some reason they've decided not only that Griffey can still hit and play a full season without tripping over a puppy and impaling both thighs on a pair of socks, they think he's capable of playing the field. Some reports are hinting that they're hopeful that he can play centre field on occasion.
Frankly, you can't come to that conclusion without being totally insane. The only way he's comparable to any of the outfielders currently on the roster is if you forced everyone else to wear blindfolds and filled their shoes with burning coals, and even if he was, he'd be more likely to be injured if he was forced to gambol about chasing pop flies down in a corner.
I realize there are conflicting reports on what the Braves would possibly like to do with Griffey, but I couldn't pass up the quote above.
Go Braves Go.

Since Moore took over, there’s been these residual anti-Braves sentiments here at RR. I don’t necessarily agree or disagree with much of it, I just don’t completely understand it. Can someone clue me in? I’d also like to know how much turnover has taken place since their dynastic run of 1991-2004. Schuerholz is still in the organization, I know….
As for the contents of this post, what is the UZR for Griffey in the field? He would have obviously fit better as a D.H. $2MM or so still seems a little steep for those services. .250/.340/.430 is likely, I think. Coupled with poor COF defense….that’s probably at or near replacement level. I understand some resentment might still lie in that Mariners’ fanbase after failing to land a potential attendance attraction hitter-only.
Still…this strange anti-Braves sentiment. I’m a confused panda.
The Nation at large. I'll be playing the role of RR Resident Optimist this offseason. What role will you assume?
maybe its because nearly every discussion of moore goes back to the braves
I wanna know what love is, I want you to show me
Schaum constantly bringing up the "Braves way,"
which lately, seems to mean “losing more games every season” and “bumbling negotations” and “pretending Jeff Francoeur is good, when average would be a miracle”

ha
I actually think that Kotchman will be Okay. Kotchman can hit like an average 1B, but he’s also a good glove — yes, even at first that matters. I mean, not for the Royals, but for everyone else. And he really is a good glove, not a crappy hitter who somehow got that label because of a noodle bat.
So he’s probably at leat an average player, with above-average upside.

god...
i cannot even imagine how pissed i’d be if i were a braves fan right now…they still have an awesome farm system with trading away like 5 of the top guys. They could very easily be set for the next 7-8 years with what would be in that system

If he goes to the Braves
that pretty much guarantees that he’ll be on the Royals next in 2 or 3 years. Braves AND Grass Creek??
