Manager Trey Hillman blames himself, in part, for Gobble’s rough 2008. Hillman cites two occasions, including that game against the Tigers, when a tired bullpen led him to allow an ineffective Gobble to take a pounding.
"I also forced the issue of wanting him to be better against right-handed hitters when he wasn’t ready for that," Hillman said. "Having said that, the objective this year will be to primarily utilize him (against left-handed hitters)."

Its hard to believe Jimmy's only 27
is he really the only one left in the organization from the incredibly lucky magical 2003 club?

What is really amazing
Is that the only players who appeared in a game for the Royals in 2003 that are still in the Majors last year are:
Angel Berroa
Carlos Beltran
Mike Sweeney (barely)
David DeJesus (7 ABs in 2003)
Kyle Snyder (1 2/3 innings in 2008)
Mike MacDougal (for 17 IP in 2008)
Jeremy Affeldt
Jamey Wright
And Gobble. Everyone else has washed out.

Man,
I would have swore DeJesus had a bigger part in 2003.
I just got back from your mom's basement.

also note that
“against left-handed hitters” is in parentheses…I guess that means that he didn’t say those words exactly. I wonder if he actually used LOOGY and Dutton didn’t want to try to explain that????

I just heard Trey...
on Petro’s show on the way back from lunch. And he said the same thing…without the parentheses.

So basically he "re-learned"
what Buddy Bell already knew? Nice.

I spent $100 exactly on the last night home game of the year
for “Shirst Off Their Back Night”, and ended up with the ol’ Gobbler. It goes without saying, I was pretty disappointed.

Since Gobble Was
A starter to begin with, I think it wasn’t too egregious to believe he could deal with RHB’s; he obviously did so with at least some modicum of success in the past. However, that was then, this is now, and Trey needs to live in the now. The Turkinator is a very good LOOGY. If we want to carry a LOOGY on a 12-man staff, he’s a good choice.
I used to be an A's fan until they left town and got good.
hopefully that ethos will rub off higher up where it matters

I have noticed
He hasn’t had the team pick up folding chairs this year.

I think that robbed the team of at least three wins last year.

As long as we don't have a...
public dressing-down immediately after a game with the players kneeling around home plate, then I think we can call it progress.
Maybe he’ll go the opposite direction this year—Mrs. Hillman bringing a cooler full of ice-cold RC Cola’s for the boys…followed by everyone piling into the Hillman’s minivan for ice cream.

I don't even know if the public dressing down (and by all accounts it was a mild one) was a bad thing
I don’t think he should be doing it all the time, but I think it can be appropriate from time to time.
