Spring Training Game Three Open Thread
The Royals take on the hated Giants today, "at" the Giants. Have any of you ever been to SF? I never have... closest I've ever got is... Yosemite I guess.
It's probably the most major US city I've never visited. Really, only Philly comes close.
What's the most major US city that you've never visited?

Never been to any north cali cities
been pretty much to every other big city except Chicago.
that;s an odd one to have missed
i didn’t really like it the first ten or so times I was there, but then again, they were all mainly drives to an airport
now, I miss random trips to it
One of the best walking towns in the country
So many little hidden gems that are walkable or are easily connected by public transportation. Wrigleyville, Fullerton/Depaul area, Northwestern area, different slices of the loop, lakewall area south of downtown, and on and on.
Jayhawk baseball - a tradition since Steve Jeltz

Bloomquist. God? Or just an illusion? You be the judge.
Different types of cities
Boston and Phiily are closer related than Miami and New Orleans. Boston and Philly seem to have pulses to their old town areas, somewhat due to the historical significance, but of course New Orleans has the staccato of the Quarter. Miami is hard to concentrate on, so much to focus on below the shoulders.
In both Philly and Boston I purposely got myself “lost” on foot just so I could wander without any real purpose other to get a feel for the city. Great experiences.
Jayhawk baseball - a tradition since Steve Jeltz
Boston is
another great walking town as you mentioned before.
I’ve only ever been to LA/Orange County out west but I’ve been in every major city east of KC.
The Snozberries taste like Snozberries
never been anywhere
that’s really not hyperbole. and all the places I have been…well it’s been over 10 years ago, and I don’t even hardly remember them. Seattle, Minneapolis, Denver, St. Louis, um…um…yep that’s about it.
Founder of the Johnny Giavotella fan club.
I don't travel...yet.
Someday, I’ll add more cities to this list:
Chicago
DC
Dallas
Pittsburgh (twice, but only for a few hours both times)
Minneapolis, if that counts as major.
Denver
…does KC count?
Hm. I think that’s all of ‘em. I think I’ve been to almost as many National Parks as I have been to major cities…that’s not a bad thing though.
WTF, self?
I wouldn't stay in Pittsburgh very long either.... :P
Stathead, Zack Greinke fan, and Rock Band 2 singer extraordinaire.
The largest city in the US I have never visited
is the home of our mortal enemies, Seattle.
The next largest cities I have never visited are Honolulu and… Fresno, which pretty much says it all.
This space for rent.
Been to SF
I guess Miami is the biggest I’ve never been to. Never made it past Orlando.
Haven’t done any Northwest either.
Kansas City Royals: your 2006 and 2007 NL Central champions!
Among cities with baseball franchises, I’ve never been to either Florida city, and if I was ever in Cincinnati I don’t remember it.
But I have been on San Francisco. It’s on the way to work.
Royals all-time record against the Giants
6 wins, 3 losses.
Memorable games:
Sweeney singles to cap comeback, bad back slapped in celebration. June 15, 2003.
Carrasco tosses a CG five-hitter. June 7, 2005. I was at this one, surrounded by people in the bleachers asking, “Who is this guy?”
DDJ makes little Cy fly, Royals come back from 7-run deficit. June 22, 2008.
Cactus league record
8 wins, 5 losses, 1 tie.
The Royals won all three games against the Giants in Arizona last year, with Greinke the starter and winner in the last of the three.
Can’t find a picture of the game-winning hit, but this is from the 9th inning:
Should have been Neifi.
This picture
is from a bloop double down the right field line by Angel Berroa, which started the rally, as I recall. Aaron Guiel reached with 2 outs, and then Sweeney lined a 3-2 pitch on a trolley over the second baseman’s head, scoring Guiel from first with a single. (Guiel was running with the pitch, which helped).
The game was played on Father’s Day, as I recall. Remember it like it was yesterday…
Mr Glass, this is a pro sports team, not a retail store - run it like one!
MacDougal
Striking out Bonds looking and getting him to buckle was pretty memorable. 2003 I think.

I remember watching the Carrasco CG on TV
kruk and kuip were sooooo pissed off. They must have said the phrase Giants and rock bottom at least 70 times.
dallas, atlanta, boston and seattle
should houston count also?
Will, I’ve been to SanFran once – when I was 8 or 9 with my family. We went to Candlestick and watched a Giants/Reds game. Pete Rose was the Reds manager – he got ejected from the game. The most memorable part of the game – it was Dave Dreveckey’s 1st come-back game from his major arm surgery/injury. I recall the Giants winning something like 5-4. Dreveckey’s next game – I think was at Houston – is when he blew out the arm again and it ended up getting amputated.
oh yeah - never been to New Orleans or St. Louis either . . . .
but based upon their hip-hop acts (No Limit/Cash Money Millionaires and Nelly) I don’t think I’ve missed much.
besides – i hate the Cards.

High-five on being born in New Orleans!
Kansas City Royals: your 2006 and 2007 NL Central champions!
Boston, Atlanta, Seattle, Philly
I’ll be crossing off Boston here in a month. Patriots HOF and Dennis Leary
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.
I love the Bay Area and prefer it over So. Cal.
All though Mark Twain is right. The coldest August day I have ever spent was in San Fransisco. When that fog moves in it feels like someone just tossed a cold wet blanket on top of you. I think the only two major cities that I have not been in are Dallas and New Orleans.
I like Chicago now, but it took me several trips in and out of the city to feel that way. I love the Shed, Navy Pier, Sue at the Museum, and the old Marshall Fields. The food has to rank right up there with the best in the country. Go Bears….
I went to San Fran in the summer
And I couldn’t believe how cold it was in the morning.

Houston, Seattle, Miami, New Orleans, Los Angeles
I just posted three HD videos from yesterdays game in the FanShots section. I’m kind of new to that whole thing, so bear with me.
Lots of places...
that I haven’t been. I’ve only been to Boston and Atlanta in the east, and I only passed thru Atlanta so I’m not sure that counts. I’ve only been to LA on the west coast. Never been to any of the major cities in Texas either.
So, I’ve never been to San Francisco. However, I have been to their ST park in Scottsdale, and I’ll be going again very shortly. Wooo-hooo for vacation days!
Later!!!

If you've set foot there, you've been there
but America is so different, you hope you have the chance to experience each area yourself. I’m always amazed by people who want to visit foreign countries but don’t seem to have the same yearning to see their own. Maybe I think they’re assuming that all of America is just like where they live, or maybe not.

Meh,
I don’t really count layovers… Just remembered three ‘Eastern’ cities, Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland. I haven’t made the Rust Belt swing.
The Snozberries taste like Snozberries
I've done the BosWash megalopolis
and the KC-St Louis-Chicago triangle. Thats it.
I’ve also been to Boise, Idaho. So that more than makes up for it.

Amen for Boise
It seemed like a very cool town. The surroundings are absolutely beautiful. And I got to see a game played on the smurf turf, which was awesome.
Atlanta, Houston, Miami, Seattle
never visted any except for connecting flights at their airports
Waiting for April.
Never been to NY, I hear its a major city
also Houton, Detroit…doesn’t sound like I’m missing much in those.

Do they have a limit on Greinke innings today?

I guess the eye surgery didn’t help as much as he had hoped for. Although before he was missing by a foot on pitches down and away.
He might be checking his swing, or trying to
Wouldn’t this picture look good with the giant word “FAIL” superimposed on it, though?

In fact, I also caught a game at Pac Bell Park, and I had purchased them months in advance. Barry Bonds just happened to hit his 600th career home run that night. Its an awesome stadium. Pretty cool city, although a bit overrated IMO. Maybe I would like it more if I spent more than a weekend there.
Biggest city I have never been to – LA. Houston, Dallas, Miami, Atlanta are the biggest cities I have never been to.
