It is 11 degrees here in the Spur but the sun is out and there will be baseball on the computer…life is good.
What place is the Spur?
36 this morning in Sonoma. Could be our last morning of the winter with frost on the ground.
But of course cold isn’t an issue here — the weather issue is drought. The local news is full of water management stuff.
Has anyone ever done a poll (or analyzed website stats) of where all the visitors on this site are from? I wouldn’t be surprised if a decent number of us are from outside of the KC area, although we probably have more ties to Kansas City than a bunch of Yankees fans or something.
I’ve seen some casual discussion about where folks are from but no survey. Might be a good topic for a post with a poll.
I missed the winter

Thanks for the responses, that’s exactly what I was wondering. I’m more of a lurker around here, but I’m pretty excited for baseball season this year, especially since I get to see the Royals for the first time in five years next week (I moved from Southwestern MO to New Mexico in ‘92, but I’ve been back to see relatives a few times and got to the K in 2004).

I'm sure that will stop as soon as Puerto Rico
gets eliminated from the WBC. Which will probably happen next round
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.
I guess the best spin on it
is that in the Bloomquist/Callaspo competition they’ve said that to win the job Bloomquist has got to impress with his hitting and Callaspo has got to impress with his fielding. By putting Bloomers in the 2 slot they give him a better chance to rack up the at bats and for them to make a thorough evaluation.
Of course if the whole exercise may prove futile.
Everyone seems to be
saying that Callaspo looks much better in the field which is nice. His bat and contact rate are no worry so if he is decent with the glove he should have no problem winning the job. My worry is that they haven’t played Bloomy at SS (I think) and are considering leaving TPJ on the team. UGH no need for him with Hernandez down in Omaha and Bloomy as a SS backup to Aviles.
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.
Yup, saw this:
Alberto Callaspo moved several steps to his left Sunday afternoon, gathered in a sharp grounder and started an inning-ending double play.
Call it a step in the right direction for a player who must prove he has the necessary speed and range to play every day without being a liability.
“That’s the farthest we’ve seen him go for a ball,” manager Trey Hillman said. “The ball wasn’t smoked, but it was good to see.”
With 24 (!) spring training games to go, there’s still plenty of time for Bloomquist to prepare for the role of utility IF. They could let the Bloomquist/Callaspo showdown last for another two weeks and still time enough for that.
I've Suffered Through
Bloomers’ whole career, since I live in Mariner country. He is the essence of a utility guy; he plays 6 positions without distinction or embarrassment. That is his true value. I hope Callaspo can convince Hillman he is a starter, because Bloomers would be way overexposed in that role.

Her early books
actually were very well written. I thought High Crimes and Misdemeanors made the case against Bill Clinton very cogently, for example. A heck of a lot less mouth-frothy sounding than Vincent Bugliosi’s book on the Bush v Gore election, that’s for sure.
After a little too much media exposure, she started going nuts, though. I’m sure the articulate woman that she once was is in there somewhere, but she’s drowned out by the cheers Ann hears every time she preaches mindless anti-left vitriol to the choir.
