What do you think of the Royals' chances in the division this year?
Not good. They have some solid young building blocks, but general manager Dayton Moore has been extremely unimpressive. They're definitely the fifth-best team in the division, although the gap from top to bottom isn't huge.

Not to pick on Gleeman,
but if Moore is “extremely unimpressive,” what is Bill “Garza and Bartlett for Young and Harris” Smith?

That's a better nickname than
Bill “Let’s sign Mike Lamb, Craig Monroe and Livan Hernandez” Smith.

True, although that's not quite as bad as
Bill “Let’s sign Kyle Farnsworth, Willie Bloomquist, Jose Guillen, Ross Gload, and trade for Mike Jacobs” Smith

and that didnt take long

He also tendered Jason Kubel
Who seems positively over paid now.

Also, I hate Twins' fans....
even though I was a Twins fan before I was a Royals fan and I still quietly cheer for the Twinkies, I can’t stand their overall fanbase.

You're kidding, right?
Aaron Gleeman helped found The Hardball Times, writes for Rotoworld (although RW isn’t that great). Whether you like his analysis or not, he’s pretty influential. He’s basically a blogger who writes so well he’s made a living out of it.

No way!
He said something critical about the Royals, which automatically means he is stupid and/or biased against the Royals.
That column seems to be very Twins-heavy
Is he always like that, or does he cycle through the teams and this just happened to be a Twins-focused column?

Didn't realize that
never heard of him before this thread, and only Hardball Times and Rotoworld, which are general-baseball sources, were mentioned.

"Definitely" the fifth best team in the division?
Somebody get this guy a stat book.

or a twins aren't that good
because none of their pitchers are actually that good and they won’t be as insanely lucky hitting with RISP book
i think the twins pitching is good
but if they lose Mauer, that really hurts them. badly. like 5 wins.
Liriano, he’s kind of a wild card because of health. Baker will regress some but still be good. Slowey is good, and he’ll be up the whole season.
plus, they have the Shit Dome factor in play.
i’m still picking them for the division for now.

Blasphemy
They know how to play the game the right way. That is why they are clutch.

to say we definitely are the 5th best team in the division may be a stretch...
but could you say with certainty that we arent?…I mean, who are we DEFINITELY better than?

I think the use of "definitely" is the problem
No the Royals aren’t “definitely” the 5th best team. No the Royals aren’t “definitely” better than any other team in the division. But the various projections show teams like the Royals and White Sox usually at the bottom of the division. Some projections have the Royals better than the White Sox and some have it reversed. Given that, I don’t think you can say that the Royals are definitely the 5th best team in the Central, that is unless you can breakdown PECOTA’s methodology and tell me where it is way off.

i agree with that.
I think we’re probably the 4th best team in the division…with a chance to sneak up to 3rd. However, if someone tells me we’re the worst, theres not really a great argument for me to make. God, real games really need to start…

Aaron Gleeman = Jerk
No team filled with young ’ens and coached by Toothpick is going to win a division where the Cubs and Cardinals are the top two teams. This prediction alone makes Mr. Gleeman bogus. – TL
And I realize...
…he was projecting out, but my first sentence applies as long as the current GM heads the Cubs and LaRussa coaches the Cards. – TL
Please
Even if you don’t care for Aaron Gleeman, not many should, or do. Where do you place the Royals? Best case, would put them in third imo. I see it being a fairly tight battle between Twins, Tribe, and Sox, with the Twins winning out cause of better talent and depth.
