According to a press release from the team, the Cubs signed infielder Esteban German to a minor league deal. He was released by the Royals last week after clearing waivers.

German, 31, hit .245/.303/.338 in 242 plate appearances last year while playing in left field as well as all around the infield. Presumably the Cubs consider German a possible third base backup; he played 281 innings at the hot corner in '07 and 43 in '08. The Cubs will have the option of keeping German for 2010, as he'll be arbitration-eligible after '09.

I seen that a while ago but I do not know how to post stuff.

Looks like the Cubs are taking our scraps kinda like we are taking the Braves left overs. Who is getting the better deal out of this?

The cubs will just keep getting progressively worse until they are 40 games under 500 for 5 consecuative years.

That's why we play the season on paper.

Always had an affinity for Bat Flip

Good OBA skills, decent speed, always had a smile on his face. But you’re going to bounce around the league if you’re a utility guy with poor defense. Godspeed Esty.

These moves by...

…the Cubs show how we were trying make back ups into major league players. German might end up in AAA Iowa, and German will basically be a pinch runner and late innings centerfielder. Both will be used less by the Cubs than they were with KC. – TL
