REMINDER: RRKL YR2 draft is this Saturday.

This is a reminder to all the managers that the RRKL YR2 draft  is Saturday, March 21st at 8 pm CT.   You should be at the draft no later that 10 minutes prior to the start time.  If there is any chance you may not be able to be online during the draft please prerank your players.  The keepers are listed below by team.  You will have to do your own draftsheet as Yahoo doesn't handle that yet.  I will be there to disqualify any picks of players that our on the above keeper list.  The first six rounds will consist of the new managers making their first six picks and then each original manager's keepers will be listed in the last part of the first six rounds of the draft.  On the seventh round everyone will start to draft the remaining free agents.  This is how the yahoo keeper system works.  I have locked down the teams so nothing will be able to be changed until the draft concludes.

I have my fingers crossed that the draft will go well and that the season will be fun and entertaining for everyone.  Good luck and Go Royals...

Oh, so Yahoo is going to show all players as draftable for us, including keepers? I as assuming that Yahoo would exclude the keepers for us.

It looks like they won't. But, since this is the first time for this draft we will see

what happens. The post was a warning that a little homework might be in order.

i think we sort of started a new league

i think there would be an option if you’re continuing an old league to have keepers. that wasn’t really feasible since we now have 20 teams. anyway, you should be able to assign keepers next season.

by marbotty on Mar 18, 2009 8:54 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

All the five new teams have to do is review the keeper list

that is posted above before they make their first six picks. All the other picks in the first six rounds are locked in and can’t be changed. They consist of the 6 keepers that were chosen by each original team several months ago. Then at the beginning of the 7th round the free agents listed should be available for drafting. Simple, right?

Wait a sec

Are you saying that the expansion teams are the only ones who get to draft for the first six rounds??? Am I the only one who didn’t know this? Of course I only get one vote, but I never would have agreed to expansion teams if I had known this. For a 20-team league, the talent left at round 7 is going to be mediocre at best. My opinion: this really sucks.

i say give em three

or we could all drop two keepers

by wildthang on Mar 17, 2009 6:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Give who three?

And is it too late to change at this point?

The new owners

will be picking new players. We, the old owners, have already made our first 6 picks by choosing the six keepers from last season. By the time the 7th round starts there will be 120 players taken. This includes all the keepers from last season. The last player taken in the 23rd round will be #460. There is 700 players on the 25 man roster of the 28 teams add to that 50 or so promising rookies that are at AAA and I think there will be more than enough players to go around. Will they all be stars…nope. That happens in a 20 team league the player pool is very water down.

Royals Nation League

Gave Expansion teams the right to pick players off waivers and keep them AND be the only teams drafting in the first NINE ROUNDS (Nine keepers per team).

Any chance we can make this a snake draft, then?

Drafting near the end of each round is going to be a real kick in the marbles for those of us at the back end. I know this is reverse order from how we finished, but a couple dozen of rounds of back end drafting seems like more than creating parity.

The immoderate moderator

by NYRoyal on Mar 18, 2009 12:08 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

No, it doesn't.

This order and draft type was discussed and agreed upon several months ago. It is the fairest for all 20 teams.

by grudz96 on Mar 18, 2009 11:48 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

ah, cool

I didn’t recall that, but I guess that’s the only way you can get the expansion teams up to speed. Ideally, you’d have the expansion teams pick first every round and do serpentine for the preexisting members of the league, but i realize that’s impossible to do, so this makes sense.

New owner posting...

As a new owner, I appreciate the chance to draft this way, but NYRoyal is right. 6 keepers does not a dynasty make. If you are going to let us, the new owners, draft 6 players before everyone else (which is a change I welcome), you should probably switch it to a snake draft to make up for the change. I mean, the original reason for putting the new owners at the top was because we weren’t getting keepers, but now we are essentially drafting our keepers. It would then make more sense to not favor one new owner over another in the keeper drafting process either and use a snake format, not to mention to give the new teams an advantage in every round by drafting first.

I second NYRoyal’s motion to make it a snake draft, assuming it is a simple change for Grudz96.

Anyone oppose?

For the record, I’m ok either way.

by AxDxMx on Mar 18, 2009 5:42 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

It is biologically impossible... that is like changing the sex of a

baby mid birth. I did check the league page and the keepers are already marked on the free agent list for the draft. So, nobody should have any problems.

Off topic…. you had better get your rage on as I am the first opponent for your team. Zook’s will prevail.

by grudz96 on Mar 18, 2009 7:46 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

But why can't you do a snake draft the entire draft?

Maybe I’m misunderstanding it, but if the original picks are already preset, then it wouldn’t be an issue.

So, for example, the above-listed order would be for the first round, then you just flip it? The other teams are auto-picked, and it works out. Then, once the 7th round hits, regular drafting resumes for all teams.

Does that make sense?

by rockchalk on Mar 20, 2009 10:01 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Seems like it makes sense

And I think the setting can be changed to “snake” draft at any time up to draft time.

my flight is getting in around 430-5

so hopefully i can get back home in time.

Gotta preserve the mediocre dynasty.

by wildthang on Mar 21, 2009 1:48 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I'm pretty sure that

1) Yahoo will exclude the keepers from the drafting process. They are already on their teams.

2) You can change your live draft at this point to an offline draft, but the snake/straight drafting choice is when you create the league and can’t be changed.

3) The first 6 rounds are 5 picks each, and assuming each owner has done his homework, should take no longer than 30 minutes.

by AxDxMx on Mar 21, 2009 2:16 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

My god

I just realized that if the first 6 rounds take 30 minutes, the last 17 rounds (340 picks) may take over 5 hours. Holy crap.

1. I think this was set up as a new league, as opposed to a continuation of a keeper league from last year. So the keepers are not already on our teams. You can see that from going to a team’s page (like mine). There are no players on any rosters.

2. You can’t change the draft format after you create the league?

I am very confused by all this complicated drafting talk stuff,

yet I am still absolutely sure I will dominate the league this year.

As I will have the second to last pick in 19 of 25 rounds, I am confident that I will finish in the bottom third

But then next year, watch out! We’d better not have a snake draft next year.

I'm more interested in the outcome than the process

These drafts are always long, especially with the freakishly high number of teams the RR leagues always have. I just wish that investing all of this time in the draft would give me a legitimate chance to be competitive this season. I guess there’s always next year.
