ST Game 7 Open Thread - Indians vs Royals

The Royals host the Indians at Surprise Stadium, where they plan to give the Royal Farnsworth his first public assay.

Zăk Greinke makes his second spring start for the Royals, followed by Farnsworth, Jimmy Gobble, Ron Mahay, Doug Waechter, and Robinson Tejeda. The Indians counter with Anthony Reyes, making his first start of the spring, David Huff, Kirk Saarloos, Jack Cassel, Edward Mujica, Tony Sipp, Rich Rundles, and the chawless Vinnie Chulk.

Broadcast: the Royals radio network, MLB.com, and XM Radio channel 179.

MLB.com Gameday: here.

Fun facts: the Indians have returned to the Cactus League this year after 16 years of spring training in Winter Haven, Florida. From 1947 through 1992 they trained in Tucson.

Incomplete fossil record: in the last of the ten years both teams played in the Grapefruit League, 2002, the Royals and Indians met 4 times, with the Royals winning 3 and losing 1.

That's a pretty strong pitching slate

All of them will (except probably Weachter) will make the team. So that’s cool. Hopefully there is a strong lineup as well.

In the first Major League movie

They trained in Tucson. I think the next year they moved to Winter Haven. Then they had the awful Steve Olin death and Hurricane Andrew I think destroyed their complex. Not good times in Florida. Good to have em back in Arizona. I think you’re going to see even more teams begin to move to the Cactus League. From what I hear, its 1000x better than Florida.

AMAZING!!!

by royalstern05 on Mar 3, 2009 3:54 PM EST up reply actions

Yes

TPJ does suck, but almost no one hits well with two strikes.

Especially when they’re 0-2. Fior example, If you look at the 2008 Royals OPSes at 0-2 last year, they’re pretty horrible.. but if you look at their sOPS+es (which aresplits against the rest of the league), a lot of them are pretty good in context.

And

Why wouldn’t they be looking for another shortstop if Pena get the job and hits .240?

how about the yankees of the mid 90's to early 00's

they had terrible 2nd basemen – it was a poo poo platter – luis sojo, etc.

can anyone generate defensive metrics that show how aviles ’08 fielding fares against jeters defensive performance from 96-2001

Might be more fruitful

to root against Hillman putting him in the lineup everyday. Something tells me having Jacobs and mildly competent Butler available to play first will do a lot to help that. Unless “Gloady” can play 2nd base or Teahen ends up starting there, I don’t see how Russ ends up on the squad.

Since we signed Farns and Cruz to go with Soria, Royals games are supposed be over after 6 innings. We just played another 4 innings today just for fun.
