Uh-oh
Does Hernandez's demotion mean TPJ will make the 25-man roster?

I don't think so
I think they see Bloomquist as the backup SS if Aviles went down. And if Aviles AND Bloomquist went down, then Hernandez (or maybe Hulett) would be called up. I feel pretty confident that we can wave goodbye to TPJ (at least in KC) this year.
It seems like there are two different scenarios that they are deciding between, and surprisingly, it all hinges on whether they think Teahen can play 2B. If Teahen’s the 2B starter, then Bloomquist and Callaspo join Buck and (sigh) Gload on the bench. If Teahen is NOT the 2B starter, then either Bloomquist or Callaspo is the starting 2B, the odd man out goes to the bench, and Teahen is the corner IF/OF sub, with Buck and either (sigh again) Gload or maybe Shealy rounding out the bench. There may also be an outside chance that they’d keep Brayan Pena, but I don’t know that they like him enough to put him on the 25-man just to keep him off waivers.

Has Bloomy
played any SS this spring? I don’t remember any if he has.

I don't recall seeing it either...
but I haven’t been paying a ton of attention to the ST games. Anyway, he’s The Spork, and he’s incredibly gritty, so he should, of course, be able to fall out of bed and play SS or one of his 6 other positions while sleepwalking.

I wouldn't worry too much
Hernandez is actually projected to be even worse than TPJ as a hitter by all of the Big Three projection systems, although, of course, he is a former Brave, so they could be way off, just like they always are with no-hit, good glove, former Atlanta prospects. This just constitutes a recognition that he sucks.
Hopefully, TPJ is next in line for… I don’t know, just not making the MLB roster.

I didn't think
Luis Hernandez had a shot to make this roster, TPJ or not. What does he bring to the table that Tony doesn’t?

Please no...
Give Mark his shot at 2nd and if his bat goes away then think about Callaspo there. Bloomy can play 2nd or short regardless of his bat. Mark is an option anywhere besides pitcher and catcher too! I DON’T want to see TPJ on this team in a week.

I agree
I haven’t been a big Teahen fan but I’d like them to give him the shot at 2B. I do think he can and will hit better than the Sporque who I believe they currently see as the starter – all denials aside. I’d much rather take a chance on Teabag than give to him.

You know what? TPJ has 4 walks in 47 at bats this spring. I watched one of them and he took 3 straight pitches that would have struck him out last year. I know it’s just one at bat, and his defense has been pretty brutal this spring, but I don’t care if he is our backup SS.

At this point
I don’t care if Pena makes the roster or not. I’m only concerned with it if he is going to start, and he most obviously is not at this point. Too many people in front of him. He can make it, but he’d be wasted space.
