Gammons on A-Rod
Peter Gammons, this afternoon on Sportscenter, discussed the A-Rod hip situation. It appears that he will be out for almost the entire season if he needs surgery (possibly 8-10 weeks if no surgery) and discussed possible moves the Yanks might make. Said Cashman could look at Grud or Crosby if it were a short-lived injury or Colorado's Garrett Atkins (FA at end of year) or Teahen, who could play 3B and OF, if he needed surgery. The only problem is that there is no way to tell right now, A-Rod's brother is saying one things and the Yanks are saying another.
I know a lot a people would like to unload Teahen, but it would definitely take another player to get anything of value back from them. Looks like we will have to wait and see how severe the injury is.

Is this a ploy by A-Rod to get out of the spotlight for a little while?
Seriously, he suddenly admits to this hip injury in the midst of all the steroids crap? I’m not saying he’s not hurt, just that he doesn’t want to fight through it now that everyone hates him. . . except the majority of fans hated him anyway. Actually, the more I type about this, the more I am in favor of him missing the season. I wouldn’t miss all the A-Rod headlines at all. SUR-GER-Y! SUR-GER-Y! SUR-GER-Y! SUR-GER-Y! SUR-GER-Y! (Say it with me!) SUR-GER-Y! SUR-GER-Y! SUR-GER-Y! SUR-GER-Y! SUR-GER-Y! SUR-GER-Y!

He hasn't denied it
So I think we can assume he did it.

As for trading pieces
I don’t see any reason not to add a prospect to a Teahen swap in order to get some value. If there’s any value to get. Would Ho-Ram count? hehehe

The Royals can't get anything of value for Teahen alone?
That seems pretty silly. You think Teahen is valueless? Is a .760 OPS third baseman who can play a few other positions really just valueless? Of course not.

That is an absolute lie.

Value
I don’t think he’s valueless. However, his value depends upon DM’s negotiating ability and his own conception of Teahen’s value compared to other people. I think plenty of people wonder about DM’s negotiating ability, so I’ll leave it at that. I also tend to believe that DM overvalues Teahen when compared to how his GM peers value him.

and yes, that's pure speculation based only on uninformed observation
no stats involved.

In this hypothetical trade scenario, it also depends on the Yankees FO conception of Teahen's value
And how worried they are that A-Rod will miss big chunks of time this season. Going by his projections, Teahen has real value. Would they get the Yanks top prospect for him or a good major leaguer like Swisher? Of course not. Teahen is a roughly average player, so they’d get that kind of value for him in return (perhaps whatever that means in prospects).
