ST Game 9 Open Thread - Rangers vs Royals

The Royals have an organizational book. They're carrying it everywhere they go in Arizona this spring and consulting it frequently. It's called  Are You My Lefty Starter?, and today the little birdie asks that eponymous question of Heath Phillips.

Ron Mahay and the Royal Farnsworth are scheduled to relieve.

The other team is apparently called the Wranglers or the Ragers or something like that. I never heard of them. But I did hear that Tommy Hunter gets the start for them on the mound while Omar Vizquel has an audition at second base.

Broadcast: the Royals radio network, MLB.com, XM Radio channel 181.

MLB.com Gameday: here.

This morning the Royals also play those same Riders or Ringos or whoever in a B game at George Brett Field. Gil Meche will pitch a little and Billy Butler will return to action after recovering from a reported contusion in the distal portion of his upper left limb. If you're in Surprise with your 3G phone, why don't you stop by George Brett Field and provide us with the play-by-play right here? Thanks.

They're the "Rangers"

They used to play in New York. I think they just moved to Texas, somewhere near Waco I believe.

More juvenile reading: something I read about Waco scared the bejeebers out of me when I was a kid. It was an account of a flood that occurred there, and Waco was described as being located in a topographical bowl. It had the ring of doom about it, as if every time it rained people had to fear for their lives. At the time I had no notion of topography anywhere west of Scranton, so it loomed large in my imagination. Maybe I should have stuck to the “I Can Read” series a little longer.

I still haven’t ever been to Waco, but I have gained a more reasonable understanding of a geographical basin.

It says here that those guys won a championship in New York.

Are you sure this is the same franchise?

Yea

But it was in the “NHL” which I think is a minor league.

Pretty much standard small-to-medium size Midwest/Texas city, like Springfield or Topeka or Lubbock. Has all the standard advantages and disadvantages of these places. Franklin Proposed It

But the question was who was the president who implemented it. I think congress has to do it.

WHERE MY DC CREW AT

Do you guys know if there will be anywhere in town to catch the Opening Day game? I mean Obama’s throwing the first pitch, it’s gotta be televised… or is it nationally televised?

by DCRoyals on Mar 6, 2009 5:19 PM EST reply actions

Good question

For some reason I thought this was definitely the case, but now I’m only seeing articles that mention his being invited to throw the first pitch

Just talked to the guys at the Billy Goat Tavern

500 New Jersey Ave

They said they’ll show the game. The guy I talked to was originally from KC.

I'd like to hear the WGN guys try to pronounce Ka'aihue again

The dude said they’d have the whole MLB package, which is encouraging. Billy Goat Tavern is a traditionally North Side bar (cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger, no fries, chips, no pepsi, coke), but they said they’d make an exception for me and show the Pale Hose on Opening Day.

three facts

I’d rather have Lenny DiNardo in the rotation than Horacio Ramirez

I’d rather have Heath Phillips in the rotation than Horacio Ramirez
