ST Game 12 Open Thread - Royals vs Cubs
The Cubs have lost six in a row. What does it mean?
There may be no such thing as a must-win game before St. Patrick's Day, but Monday's game against the Royals may be the next-closest thing for the Cubs.
But, Lou, spring training records are meaningless, right?
"Look, spring training wins and losses don't mean anything," Piniella said. "But you don't want to get in the habit of getting your [butts] kicked every day either. That I can tell you, and that's exactly what's happening here."
And so at HoHoKam Park in Mesa today Lou puts the [butts] of Chad Gaudin and Jeff Samardzija on the line to stave off Cactus League elimination.
Brian Bannister and Luke Hochevar will pitch for the Royals, along with relievers Kyle Farnsworth and Joel Peralta.
Broadcast: the Royals radio network, MLB.com, and XM Radio channel 178.
MLB Gameday: here
Last year: the Cubs won both meetings with the Royals in Arizona. March 9: Brett Tomko and Leo Nunez were both shelled. Cubs, 13-1. March 18: Le Canadien Mark Teahen went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, but Joakim Soria gave up the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the 9th. Cubs, 6-5.

In the Royals game of life, Neifi Perez is the rake.
i wouldn't call what he's done an assault
he’s hitting .208 with 2 walks and 10 k’s.
i can’t help but read into spring training stats. they always make me feel worse about the team too- there’s no way coco can keep it up, players i’m counting on aren’t performing to my expectations.
This is parody, right?

It’s a Stewart-only day. But if Lfvbr sees that lineup early enough, he’ll probably come to Mesa to praise Pena.
My greatest fantasy
TPJ getting released leads to Lefebvre quitting in disgust. A “productive out” I can get behind.
speaking of the smirk
everyone in my whole family thinks gordon and george brett look eerily similar….. has anyone else noticed this?
Mike Jacobs.... I hope your bat has as much lift as your hair does.....
let us all bow our heads

Nice to see spring training games are unimportant;
until the manager gets embarrassed.
hahahahaha
the only way you can tell them apart is by soria’s unibrow

Would really like to see Spork get some time at short
It would make me feel better about TPJ’s chances of getting shipped out.

Is out of options and the Cubbies will have quite a roster squeeze for their pitching staff. Wouldn’t mind seeing us swing a deal for him.

I HATE the Cubs
I used to root for them sorta but living in Omaha has created a swell of hatred for them
I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.
The term Hohokam, borrowed from the Akimel O'odham, is used to define an archaeological culture that existed from the beginning of the current era to about the middle of the 15th century AD.
So there’s that.

Yes, there is that.
Spent a very nice afternoon at HoHoKam Park with my sons about 4 springs ago. While the older one was running around gathering autographs, I said in the bleachers with the younger one reading Frog and Toad books and watching the game. Good day all around.
I loved reading Frog and Toad books to my kids.
Of course, I think I liked them more than they did. Hopefully the odd humor in them prepares them for this odd world.

Mine says he liked them a lot. I just asked him.
Doesn’t remember that day at HoHoKam, however. I guess I’m not surprised. It was the tail-end of a long weekend in Scottsdale and Mesa for a good-sized group of dads and sons from our area, and we kept pretty busy the whole time. He was the youngest of the sons, and he was pretty much done by that stage of the trip trying keep up with the older boys. After the Cubs game we all went to dinner at a steakhouse, and he fell asleep right at his seat.
Alex in the 6 hole.
How well/long before they move him up in the regular season?

anybody know if there's a gameday widget available for this game?
i don’t see one on the main page; but sometimes there’ve been links here to hidden ones.
Oh, sorry---I was looking in the comments for the location of the gameday.
That’s where I’ve seen it before.
Thanks.
Another BB another run given up by the Brain
You think someone with his knowledge of the game would realize walks are bad for pitchers

On days I think the Carlos Beltran trade was an awful deal
I just sit back and remember the Aramis Ramirez deal. What did the Pirates get, like Bobby Hill and Dave Brubeck?

Did I just hear that correctly
The Cubs have led the NL 8 straight times in strikeouts? Wow.

HoHoKam
Personally, I thought this was one of those clever backwards names, like the old race track in Omaha (AKSARBEN was Nebraska backwards), only whomever named it was too ashamed to publicize said fact. (Mak o hoh?)
Mr Glass, this is a pro sports team, not a retail store - run it like one!
Brian better get his car warmed up for that I-29 trip North

Hopefully Luke can go
4 scoreless. I think I’m leaning to HoRam over Bannister. At least HoRam can blame the defense for his struggles.

we really need another starter
hopefully Banny or HORAM can hold the fort down this year at some level of not completely suckitude. then maybe cortes, wood, or even gutierrez will be ready at the beginning or some point next year.
Founder of the Johnny Giavotella fan club.
I wish they would force Rosa
to use that change up more in Omaha. He has the fastball, hard slider combo to be a starter if he could develop that change.
I wouldn’t be shocked if Wood competed pretty well at AA/AAA this year. He was overpowering last year when he was on.

Sounds like the offense has taken the day off a day early

Sounds like Hoch got hit pretty hard in that inning.

Luke 2 Brian 1 so far this spring

After having ruined the Tigers' 2008 season last April
I’m glad we didn’t ruin the Cubs’ 2009 season in March. It’s much harder to sneak up on the league when you’ve built up tons of resentment against you.
