Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

I'm liking this team as a Cinderella team. Pretty much every team in the AL Central has its warts. Couple bad bounces for other teams, good ones for the Royals, and they could be playing meaningful baseball the last couple weeks of 2009.

I don't know if this kind of chatter is good for the Royals

But it is nice to know that unbiased baseball fans across the country are giving this small market team a little recognition as a possible contender. That is uncharted territory for us (even with 2003; very few saw that one coming).

I don't think the talk helps or hurts

People love to talk about how valuable it is to have a team be undervalued, go under the radar, and sneak up on other teams. I think that’s crap. You don’t win by surprising other teams. You win with talent. And the Royals will either have enough talent to win or they won’t.

At the very least, I think this team has confidence

Whatever effect that has, I don’t know. But as a wise man once said, “before, they just said they were rebuilding because they were bad.”
