I don't think we really know how Hillman, Moore or other players felt about Ponson's performance

Unless they are stupid and/or devoid of self control, they are going to say moderate, positive things about a player’s performance. Occasionally a manager will call a player out to the media, but only if the issue is effort. If they guy is doing his best, then you say positive things about him publicly.

From what I heard from Dayton Moore on a 810 podcast recorded Thursday, Moore doesn’t like how Hochevar is losing his stuff in the middle innings. He just doesn’t think Hochevar can be counted on to pitch through 5 innings at this point. And he thinks Bannister needs to learn how to just make his pitches and stop studying and thinking so much. So basically he thinks those guys need to work on some things and in the meantime, a guy like Ponson is minding the store. It’s not because they think Ponson is a world beater, but because someone needs to take up a rotation spot at least for the time being. We’ll see how long Ponson and HoRam last in the rotation.

Mellinger

Mentioned this over on his Ball Star blog the other morning, as well as he seemed to lose some velocity on his fastball

I wonder if it's good, however

that he’s only criticizing himself, as he was run out of Texas on a rail for supposedly not helping the team mentality there.
