Wrestling themes @ The K
(ITS STILL REAL TO ME DAMMIT ALERT)
Just got back from my first experience at "The New K". Very, very impressed to say the least. Even though they told me I was the first person to order a helmet sundae (they didn't even have a sundae button on their register!), and they did it wrong twice before getting it right the third time.
One thing that caught my eye (or ear, in this case) was the use of WWE entrance themes throughout the entire game. When the Royals got a run across, they played Matt Hardy's "Live for the Moment" song. During a pitching change, they played "Aint No Make Believe," John Morrison's theme. They also played music from Batista, Christy Hemme, RAW, PPV themes (countless PPV themes, including obscure ones like "Big Time" from WM21).
Don't get me wrong, I think it is awesome, but it was surreal hearing wrestling music used so often. Did they hire someone within the WWE to run the production at Royals games? Is the song selection guy just a huge wrestling fan? It really made tonight a special experience, and I'd like to know if anyone knows why.
FYI, my favorite song used: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2kVfnAY77I&fmt=18
FYI 2: If you don't go to the MLB 2K Sports Zone in the Outfield, you're crazy. That was a blast.

I noticed and was telling people
I wonder what’s going on here. I’m guessing whoever is in charge of the music is a wrestling fan and being selfish with the choices for music.
I heard the Shelton Benjamin “Ain’t no Stopping me now” theme on Sunday.

They played "Walk Hard" for one of the walks
obviously the dude handling the music is hipper than the between-innings douchebag (Tim?)
Can’t wait until they use this theme for some occasion.
what about the Hulk's song?
would that be offensive to some of the latin and japanese players?

I wasn't at the game last night...
but I heard on 810 this morning that they played “You’re the Best” after the win. Which, of course, I would have been VERY pumped about had I been there. I sure hope that wasn’t an isolated incident this year.

No, as in...
Joe Esposito, “The Karate Kid,” and Daniel Larusso. Just click the link.
A little Carly Simon at the end of every Royals game would be a little weird, I think. Not quite exciting and upbeat enough right after a win is sealed.

Boooooo...
Internet Gestapos.
You should check it out when Himmler is not restricting your access. Truly an exquisite musical experience.

They played it before the game on
Opening Day.
I was a huge fan of the George video with that song they showed in pregames.
If you were thinking, you wouldn't have thought that.
this should be Farns' entrance music

My all-time favorite live and in-person...
song experience at the K was last year when Teahen came out to “Informer” by Snow. The randomness and comedy of that selection would be difficult to top. You know that somebody in the clubhouse basically dared him, and he probably didn’t even flinch. Or who knows, maybe he just decided to do it all on his own.

Even more random-ness
Mark Teahen comes out to one of Jose Lima’s songs. Yes… BELIEVE IT!
Teahen knows what time it is

Esposito - You're the Best
Obviously best when used on the Karate Kid, but the second best usage was in the Thrill of it All 1986 Royals World Champions video when it was used during the George Brett 1985 season montage. Classic moment in montage history.
In the Royals game of life, Neifi Perez is the rake.
I happen to know
(by being a relative) that the Director of Game Entertainment* is a huge wrestling fan. Not sure if he has a direct hand in stuff like that, but it wouldn’t surprise me either.
*I think that’s his proper title anyway…
WTF, self?
In theory, he does take requests.
But so far, Porcus and I have been unable to make our requests* heard. What would you like to hear? I can pass along anything y’all want to hear.
*every Dragonforce song ever.
WTF, self?
can he play
bust a move for every opposing teams at bat? it’ll be funny, then not funny, the really funny
