Game Nine Open Thread - Indians (1-7) at Royals (5-3)
Cleveland Indians at Kansas City Royals, Apr 15, 2009 2:10 PM EDT
The Royals go for the sweep with our main man on the mound.
I'll be sightseeing with my in-laws during the game, and because of the circumstances, and the fact that this is a day game, I'm anticipating a ton of comments. So I've set the first Overflow Thread to appear at 2:30 KC time, with another appearing at 3:30.
If there's a rainout, the site is going to look awful.

I understand starting Pena with a groundball pitcher on the mound
Is Sidney a groundball pitcher?
But I don’t get starting him AND Bloomie in the same lineup. Play Callaspo, he’s not terrible defensively, and he’s a huge upgrade over Bloomie offensively. Our lineup isn’t nearly good enough to carry that much dead weight.
Relive Royals History at royalsretro.blogspot.com
it's the all-defense line-up
Ponson is very much a ground ball pitcher. Pena is our best defensive SS and Bloomquist is by far our best defensive 2B. After the terrible defense Ponson got against the Yankees, I think Hillman wanted to set him up with a real chance to succeed.

That’s what this site exists for.
I am willing to be patient with Gordon. He and Butler have both showed more patience at the plate this season than last. Gordon’s problem in his last few AB’s is the fact that he rested for a few days and I think it disrupted his rhythm. I think he’ll settle back in and be just fine.

Turns out we do need Guillen back. It’d help a lot if Butler came around too.
yeah, last season was a real outlier
the team’s projected best hitters overall other than Butler — Gordon, DDJ, Jacobs, Teahen (yes, I know that’s sad), are all lefties. Last year was an outlier for massive splits vs. LHPs. Guillen has average splits for his career, so he won’t mash lefties, but really, Him, DDJ, and Aviles are the only ones I expect to be above average hitters vs. LHP. Maybe Olivo, although his massive career spltis is likely an anomaly.
